I can already tell you have not yet read the FAQs pages. This particular feature of the site is clearly explained right there. Be sure to go to the FAQ link at the top of the site so you can find out what this means.
Welcome aboard. Have fun, but read the rules so you can really get the best out of this site.

First, even though it may be boring to you, it is very important to take time to go to the FAQ link and read all that is there. If you skip that detail, you could easily violate site rules and find yourself getting banned before you get going.
Second, take note of the red user names. Fergal is the site owner and cyberfreak is the guy who keeps the site running. Click on those user names and study the content they have posted. Anything labeled in red “Must Read” is in addition to details you learn in the FAQs section. Those added details can help you advance on this site by leaps and bounds over stumbling through question and answer content from anyone else.
Follow the rules and post quality content. Don't copy and paste content and most certainly do not post the same response to a variety of questions. Duplicated content that does not add value to the thread can be a reason to get kicked out.
Learn how to monitor your own quality. The reputation points come from other members of the forum community, including site administration. If you post high quality content that impresses another member, they give you a point. If you post something so bad it offends someone, they could give you a negative point. You gradually collect reputation points as you add content.
By the time you have contributed 50 posts, you should have some reputation points attributed to you. If you divide the reputation points by your total number of posts, the result is basically your quality score. You will begin to see how the rest of the community views your content. The average member has earned a 10.95% score on this site. If your result is lower than that, you need to work harder to improve your quality. If your score is higher than that, you are probably contributing quality content to the site. There are many members with scores well above the average. Do your best to contribute content that adds to the value of each thread and you will begin to see your reputation points and results increase over time. No one is going to tell you your content stinks but the reputation points they give you says it all.
Take the time to at least visit each category as listed on the home page. That will give you a preview of what is even here so you can get familiar faster.
You can post an introduction question in the "New Member Introduction" category just to say hi and let others know who you are. If you have any special interests you want to share, you can open an "AMAs & Interviews" page (Ask Me Anything). Tell others what kind of questions you can answer, or just take a chance at whatever comes your way. All posts there are asking you personally for your answer.
Note that the link for "New Posts" will take you to a general list of all posted content in the order it was posted. Since it is a total mix from everything, topics you might be looking for may be lost or at least very hard to find. You can go to any specific category on the home page to find just the threads that are posted in that category. It makes it much easier to find just the ones you want.
You can also click on the magnifying glass in the top line of links to search any keyword that is posted in any thread. That will bring up just those threads that include whatever you put in the search line.
A few things I have learned that might also help. I happen to prefer using my laptop to view this site. Some of these added tips may not apply to mobile connections:
If you want to post a new thread, first go to the home page and look at the specific categories. Make sure you select the correct category that best fits your new thread. The members who even look at those different categories changes depending on their own interests. If you post something in the wrong category, it can sit unanswered for a very long time because the ones who might provide the best answers are looking at different sections of the site.
If you are interested in returning to the top of the page, just clicking home on your keyboard takes you to the top. If you want to go to the bottom of the page, just clicking end on your keyboard will take you there. If you get lost and want to find your way out, just go to the top of whatever page you are on and click the home link to find the starting page to go anywhere on the site.
If you are like me and find the text too small, click “ctrl and +” at the same time to enlarge the text. You can also click “ctrl and –“ to reduce the size or “ctrl and 0” (that is a zero) to return to the original size.
When you want to view any particular page, get in the habit of right click (INSTEAD of Left Click) to open the page in a new tab. Rather than replacing your index page, it opens in a new page. You can read and enter your new content as long as you like. When you are done, close that added tab and you are right back to where you left off on the original page. Just as a test to see if anyone actually reads these tips, I'll donate 10 FC to the first member who finds this line and contacts me about it. Congratulations to Talkerbee for being the first to spot the Easter Egg on 7/4/18. A 10 FC donation has been paid.
Hope those few ideas help you get a quick start so you can fly on this site right from day one.
You're welcome! As a part of the community, it is our duty to encourage and help others by sharing personal knowledge. Some members too here like Mr. OldGuy and Admin Fergal and Cyberfreak are generous. These are simple reason why the community runs for the long time. Members and Admin are great!simplyfred wrote:@oldguy @talkerbee, great tips my friend. Thank you for the share. I definitely learn a lot.
