When will ForumCoin have One Million posts?

Postby Fergal » 11 Mar 2016, 19:26

We currently have over 168,000 posts on ForumCoin. When do you think we will reach the 1 million post mark?

That's interesting! Did you set any target to meet 10K, 100K, then 1 million post when you first set up forumcoin?
I didn't know much about the history of forumcoin. Was forumcoin started in 2013?

I'd guess.... perhaps in a year? ;)

Thanks kaka135.

No, we didn't have specific targets like that. The question of when we would reach the million just crossed my mind today. Obviously we want to keep up the good quality of our posts and not increase post count just for the sake of the numbers.

Sure. I always think quality is more important than quantity, and that's what make the members stay. Though it's a paying forum, if there aren't any good posts to read, I think many will choose to leave. I think this is the reason forumcoin has been around for so many years, am I right? ;)

ForumCoin has been transitioning from a period of lower quality but high number of posts to higher quality/ lower number of posts. In the short term, that will mean growth is a bit slower but over time, ForumCoin will become a quality resource of information (the key for any forum). That will encourage more member signups and more posts.

I think, with changes that could happen, the forum could reach the 1 Mil post mark in 2017.

Yes we can. Here's my conservative analysis and proposition. The target of 1 million posts could be possibly reached by a matter of 40 days. That is one month and 10 days.

Let's assume that the actual member of 2,100 will be actively working everyday with 10 posts. Thus we get 21,000 posts and multiply them by 40 days. So it would be a total of 840,000 posts. We add the existing post right now which is 168,000. We get a total of 1,000,800. So we have reached the one million target. We even exceed an 8,000 posts from the target.

How's that?

The next step is the strategy, the promo, the incentive, the reward, and the like? That's what we are going to think about on how to do them.

Thanks everyone for your support.

Sam, I agree fully, we have been focusing on improving post quality which has greatly helped the strength of the community. It's excellent that we have so many members who contribute so helpfully and positively to our discussions.

Hi nakitakona, I really do admire your optimism and it is unlikely that we will grow that quickly. Communities are stronger when they grow more slowly, if we suddenly had that level of posts individual members would be less visible and it would be a big challenge to maintain the quality of the discussions.

I totally agree, @Fergal....I'm no expert, but in as much as it'd be lovely to have a huge membership, I too like the idea of the site growing more organically and at a steady pace. I don't know the full details, but look what happened with BMN; the owner was completely overwhelmed by the alarming rate at which the site grew and had no choice but to close shop :( I'm confident FC will get there in good time :)

I agree that we should maintain the quality of the posts, that is what attracts other users to join the forum. I could see that there are always new members coming to join us, if all the users do their 10 daily posts it would be easy, at the rate of the daily posts at the moment, probably we will reach the mark of 1 million posts next till the end of the year.

I think if we stay like we are then it will take a few years . I do however believe that if we can increase revenue + offer more ways for users to earn then users will be more attracted to ForumCoin, participate more and everyone can earn more.

I have always said that I would rather see a small community of good members and have a smaller forum than have alot of members and alot of posts but with a community which lacks respect for each other. In a previous forum I formally owned (and later helped Fergal manage when he owned the site) i found that even when we had hundreds of users online daily and reached 1,000,000 posts, the forum and the community was no where near as good, friendly and as interesting as it was when we were alot smaller.

I agree with cyberfreak but there is a disadvantage because if more and more people join the harder it will become to pay people I think

Just happened to stumble over this post 2 years to the day after it was originally posted. With the two years experience as a reference, the site has gained an annual average of 114,741.5 posts. At that rate, it could be at least 5 more years before you hit the millionth post.

Per the Home page as of today, April 4, 2018 6:20 PM CST), there is Total posts 407,792. That's almost 500,000 or half a million. That's roughly about 100K a year since the site opened its doors.

You could set a goal to reach 500K by the end of this year, 2018.

Set the beginning date at May 1, 2018.

Encourage members with a “carrot”.

When the 500,000th post is reached each member who was clearly been active (signed in at least 5 days a week and made 10 posts, each day) will be awarded “bonus” coins at the end of the year for contributing to the forum's growth.

In 2019, set goals to reach 125K posts at end of March, June, September, and December, offering more “carrots”.

Just a suggestion.

I first found this place from an old buddy of mine :D . After that I was posting for a while. Then I got really busy so I was not on here as often as I should have. Now I have been inspired by others on different sites to come here so I am on daily again. I Am happy that fegal has this place and I would love to see it grow more :D

I've been thinking about this question for several days. Just for kicks and giggles, I just did some calculations based on recent observations and now have a prediction:

If all on site continues as is, predicted date for one millionth post: 07/03/21

Taking bets. Anyone up for a challenge?

Pick a date. When 1,000,000 posts are reached, everyone who participates (and is still active on this site) needs to agree to donate 10 FC to the one who is still active and is closest to the correct date.

The easiest ways to reach that is to improve on the earning pattern so as to increase the members which will in turn increase number of posts within a short time

I bet for Sep 24 2022. 1M posts for the 10th year anniversary from joining Mr. Fergal on this site.

The total postings if based on the current numbers escalation, I will like to think that it will probably take another year but it had a lot of factors to depend on.

Especially whether the management team will actually encourage the increase in the posting rate but compromise on the quality or vice versa...

So it is whether we will want one million posts of 90% quality or 80% quality.

The speed of reaching there will be very different.
