The "20 replies and 300 views" rule

Postby Wyvh » 06 Aug 2017, 16:16

Hi there,
I'd like to discuss about the following rule of articles-writing:

if your article topic receives at least 20 replies and at least 300 views, we will pay you an additional 100 ForumCoin

While I appreciate the bonus, I checked a few pages of the Articles section and.. well, I didn't see any article reaching this milestone of 20 replies/300 views.

I was thinking that, perhaps, this rule could be reviewed ?

Why would you think it needs to be reviewed? It's been reviewed already by the admins and it's to prevent abuse where people attempt to get non organic replies and views in order to gain coins. When the section first began, the rules were different, and have been adjusted and adapted several times already.

I see them as very fair, and considering there is a little bit of quid pro quo with some views and responses already (please let's be honest here) the level set is appropriate.

I did get paid for one and yes you are right. Getting 300 views is not easy.

I have one more that has reached over 250. Good you reminded me. I shall share it with my net working connections.

Perhaps you did not check all of them. s far I remember couple of mine got 20+ replies and I was rewarded with bonus immediately.

Thanks for the feedback. We introduced the bonus to encourage and reward higher quality articles and also to reward members who promote their ForumCoin articles. We've had a number of articles which have received the bonus and others which are now coming close to it.

If you scroll to the bottom of the forum section and order topics by views descending, you will see the articles which have the highest views.

That sure is a huge task. I mean, don't expect one of your articles -as good and interesting they might be- to reach that milestone in less than a few weeks. :/

Oh, didn't see that order filter. Now it's getting clearer. Thanks.

I have written many articles here. And I think fergal's rule is fine on this considering lack of ads in forum.

Also I think the bottom ad needs to be at the top. That way the articles sections content can get some relevant ads and also helps with revenue from the forum.

I think this rule is fair because this will make the writers to write more useful articles only and compete with this rule. You will be motivated to produce more good articles when you see that your articles have been read by a number of people besides the reward. :)

It is achievable and as the bonus is twice the initial reward for an article, it is something that should be awarded to the best articles. The views metric is a bit irrelevant as that can easily be artificially increased in so many ways by anyone. The comments metric is more difficult but achievable especially if the article is something that interests alot of the members here, encourages discussion and unique. If there are loads of similar articles, it won't get many replies (or even views) as users will have seen many similar articles before. A good article about a popular topic that is different from the majority of other topics with some good promotion should be enough in most cases to eventually get the bonus. Answering users questions can also help increase conversation which will boost the chances of getting that bonus. Some users post an article and forget about it and not check any comments which can be a mistake.

* * @Fergal, @CyberFreak ~
I'm OK with goal. Just want to clarify. How are the "Views" counted?

The "Views" counted are just visitors within this community? Right?

Or does the view count include guests who pop in from the outside world because a link got tweeted or shared via social media and they came to view the details?

"Views" are any views of the article by anyone. It includes registered users, bots and guests without an account here.

That is like posting an announce to sell something you really wish to get rid of and not reply to any offer.. weird.

For the views, I would highly recommend posting your article on social media... Reddit is an especially good source of traffic if your article is well written. :)

I already do that. I have gone beyond 300 but I have not got 20 comments but just 17. One of my articles is languishing there.

Well I think Fergal is being quite lenient with the 20 comments and 300 views rules. Look at it this way, the website has only one ad running which doesn't bring much revenue to the website. Another thing is that people can just as easily keep using ipchanging softwares to get the required number of views that they want. Getting comments on the other hand is also easy if you just ask your friends to comment on any article that you write. They can easily be fixed but even still fergal has given everyone leeway to atleast earn a bonus on well written articles.
