We have a chatgpt problem

Postby Netherrealmer » 01 Feb 2025, 07:31

Right now I notice there are members here who are using ChatGPT to make a reply. I can understand if you will use ChatGPT to improve your article, improve your grammar, improve your thread. But being 100% reliant on ChatGPT, not using prompt, just paraphrasing a part of the thread, and then using it as a reply, which is not a reply because it's already on the thread, is basically laziness and cheating. I'm not going to call out anyone, but please, do not abuse ChatGPT or any AI platform. You can use AI to improve your post, which is your own work, your own opinion, but do not let ChatGPT do everything because it's going to sound like an articulate nonsense. You can use ChatGPT to translate your non-English opinion into English, but you cannot use it to make a reply for a thread and no human context. The reply button is for posting your opinion, not posting random trivia from ChatGPT.

Come on, I don't even bother fixing my grammar errors sometimes. So what's with people here being ashamed of their English? There are creative ways to use AI, but do not 100% rely on it. Like bother using a prompt, not paraphrasing what is on the thread and turning it into a reply. That's not how it works. Use your own opinions.

Thanks for the reminder Netherrealmer. I do agree that it is much better to keep the discussions human and to post with your own personal opinion rather than something that has been copied and pasted from elsewhere.

Also please note the following from our guidelines:

Please do not copy and paste articles, portions of articles, AI generated content or posts from other sites, if you want to discuss an article, describe it in your own words and provide a link to it.

They can use it to translate their English but not do the work for them making the replies nonsensical.

AI is going to make some of us dumb in the end. This is indeed tragic.

I guess responsible actors should intervene to protect young upcoming generations from AI.

Who would you consider to be responsible actors, do you mean governments? What type of actions do you think they should take to protect people?

Forums and other sites that accept content from active members should be required to monitor all suspected content for plagiarism. Remove it and ban the member who submitted it. Even if you cannot identify plagiarism back to some original source, AI resources now provide an alternate source of plagiarism and should be considered as such if a plagiarism test site identifies it as such.

Without that active monitoring of suspected content it will only get worse. A warning of such site monitoring should be visibly posted on the site and nothing less will be effective.

Forums are for human interactions. I have found that the human touch is lost if it is completely from AI generated text. Chatgpt or any AI tool is to assist and improve human work, it should not be to replace the human work. Let's avoid overuse of AI and use it for our assistance and not our replacement.

At myLot it is banned. In fact yesterday one was banned. He had responded to a couple of my posts running into thousands of words. Normally one responds not beyond a few sentences. I enjoyed reading and even complimented him but today I did not see him

That is going to destroy our originality. I am dead against anything that takes away my power of thinking.
