I want to plug a video I posted on YouTube in September of 2007, because it still works.

The biggest point I want to make, is once you create a video and get some traffic started, just leave it there and let YouTube bring more traffic to you FOR FREE!

There is no way to tell in advance which video will go viral, but it's guaranteed the one you never post is not going to be one of them.

The natural progression from making a little money from writing, is to make more money from using your writing skill to promote things that pay better.

This is a way you can do that and continue to build on it for years to come, after your original effort is all but forgotten. It's like leaving a $100 bill on a rural roadside, someone will find it sooner or later. Only this one stays there for the next person to find too.

I don't make money directly from YouTube (although a lot of people do from advertising), but I attract visitors to other websites that promote for me to earn commissions. Copyright music is hard to get past no matter where you get it. ASCAP requires you to pay a license fee to be legal, if you perform anywhere people pay to watch you.

Yes you are right. Youtube is similar to doing something once and reaping the benefits over and over again. It's a similar concept to a residual arrangement in a business contract.

I tried using youtube to promote a site and youtube said it was against the rules and banned the video I made something about trying to make people leave youtube and go to another site with the vid. I found that odd because that's what most videos do with all those notations on it and notes on the bottom in the comments section

You don't need to be on camera to make videos for YouTube. Slide shows, sketch videos, or just a static image with a sound track are a few other methods. Just head over to YouTube and type in "how to make videos with no camera" in the search box.
