Hello
As you probably know we have had our article section for a while and while it has had some good articles posted in there, there has been alot of low quality, copy and pasted, off topic or short articles made. We have also had users set up new accounts to work around restrictions put in place to limit or stop abuse such as the daily article limit and blocks put on accounts stopping certain users posting articles that had abused the section previously. It has also caused problems for us when enforcing rules and users not feeling that we were right to remove their article.
We have decided to therefore require users to apply to become an
Article Writer and only users that are part of this group can post new articles. We have tried to make the process simple, fair and (unlike some other sites) achievable and free!
This new process will allow us to improve the quality of the article section while also allowing us to guide users in what we expect prior to articles being posted meaning that less articles should be moved and users should find that most or all their articles are what we expect so will have a happier experience writing for us.
The criteria we require is (we feel) quite fair and realistic. While not all the parts of the application requires information, providing examples of articles etc will help us get a better feel for your ability to write good articles and it likely to improve your chances of being accepted. We also do not require users to write an article specifically for us or ask users to publish an article for free for the purpose of their application. If you have your own blog, written articles on other sites or previously written articles here, linking to them is enough. We are not looking for people with perfect English or vast knowledge that few people on this earth possess. We just want people who can construct quality, useful and interesting articles.
We consider the following areas when deciding if a user should be part of the article writers group
- The quality of your posts here. These can be a good judge towards the likely quality and writing style of your articles.
- How well you follow rules here. If a user has a habit of not following the forum guidelines set out then we will feel that there is a reasonable chance that they also will not follow the article specific guidelines
- How long you have been a member here. It is hard to judge newer members however members who have been active on the forum for a little while will allow us to get a better idea of your article writing ability.
- Your application in general. We are not expecting a job application type submission but if a user replies with examples of good articles written by them, we are more likely to accept them.
If you wish to apply to be a part of the article writers group, please send the application below (obviously once you filled it in

) to @
Cyberfreak. These will be required to be sent to Fergal once he is back online more often.
Please ensure you read our
article guidelines prior to submitting your application. Questions marked with a * are required. The other sections are not required although may increase your chances of acceptance if you can prove your ability to write good articles.

We will get back to you within 48-72 hours and we will give you a decision and maybe some guidance if we feel it is needed to help with a future application if you were not successful this time or guidance to ensure your articles are exactly what we are looking for so you can be confident when you submit an article, it will not be removed.
We hope you can understand why we have made these changes. It is likely that this concept will be altered in the near future based on feedback and the quality of articles and changes may be made to the selection criteria, rewards for articles and topics allowed to be posted about etc. We will of course announce these changes so users are aware.
Lets hope that these changes are beneficial for everyone
