1. Find a free registry cleaner such as Wise Disk Cleaner
2. Be SURE that there aren't too many programs running in the background
3. Wipe Download library it will have a lot of lag switches

When there is noticeable slow processing speed of my computer, I immediately check the msconfig if there are unnecessary programs running. I uncheck those and reboot. I usually find Google Update and Yahoo messenger - they run at the start and I don't need them.

What kind of slow computer are you referring to? How old is the computer? If there are too many running softwares then you will experienced this so you should try closing an application. I do think that when your computer cannot handle too many applications, one will crash.

I would be careful when messing with the registry , personally I say don't do it. but first clean all your cookies and temp files with superantispyware and ccleaner then run Microsoft security essentials . you might also check your files with a elevated command prompt. go to your search box and type command prompt when that appears right click it and run as administrator then type in sfc /scannow there is a space between sfc and /scannow and enter. after that you need to reboot. then run the command prompt again and type in chkdsk /r and enter. after reboot again

Besides cleaning all the junk and temporary files and making sure the registry is ok, if possible, expand your RAM. I did it on my previous laptop and boy...it made all the difference.

Do you find the computer slow recently? What I do when I notice that my laptop is slow than usual is to do a quick reboot. If that doesn't work, I do a disk cleanup or run a software to remove malware/trojans/tracking cookies. When we surf the net, these are downloaded immediately in our laptops so we need to run ccleaner or superantispyware or any similar software to remove these. I usually find my laptop faster after a full scan.

By lag, do you actually mean lag or just low framerates/framerate drops, or just mouse delay?

Can you post your specs and tell us when and what you are running when you experience lag?

What kind of connection are you running and with which ISP?

If after checking for virus, malware, defrag the disk ( in windows 7, start buton, all programs, acessories, system tools..is something like that ) and is still the same, you gonna need to format the PC. If you dont know how to do it and dont know no one that can do it go to a shop, they do it there. If you need to format it make a backup of everything thats important because format cleans all. Also check if your computer Hard Disk still have lots of free space. If is almost full, that slow down the PC.
I guess by "lag" you mean the computer is slow, right? is not online lag

If you have outdated computer system for sure it will slow down your computer. Uninstall unnecessary programs and keep your system cleaned always by your provider of choice. I like CC Cleaner but I just unchecked the history and password cleaning because I have sites that I am automatically signed to. 8-)

The main cause of lagging is the junk files in your computer. You can go to recovery and try clearing the residual files. It will surely help you my friend. Good luck! :)
