China begins testing firefigthing robot dogs with water cannons and thermal vision

Postby mrki444 » 15 May 2025, 10:16

Developed by Unitree Robotics, these four-legged firefighting machines are designed to charge straight into danger zones that would put human lives at serious risk. Equipped with high-pressure water cannons, HD and thermal cameras, and rugged stair-climbing legs, they can navigate debris, locate victims, and spray flames—all while sending real-time footage back to rescue crews.
Already deployed in trial missions across Chinese cities like Qingdao, these robo-canines have reduced human exposure time by over 70 percent and sped up fire suppression by 40 percent. They're part of a larger smart city safety strategy, combining AI, robotics, and real-time data to make emergency response faster and safer.
Why legs over wheels? Fires rarely happen on smooth ground. These robots can walk over rubble, climb stairs, balance on slopes, and even patrol autonomously—making them perfect for chaotic, collapsing environments.
Welcome to the future of firefighting. It has four legs, a water cannon, and zero fear.

Anything that helps save lives and reduces suffering I think is the perfect use of technology and something I support. It would definitely be a useful technology to roll out. Quite often things are just made automated or use robots to purely save money by replacing humans which is not good for anyone but shareholders.

Here is video how they test robots. Of course there will be always need for human help but at least firefighters don't have to go in most dangerous situations.

Quite a good technology. I think that it can help the firefighters in many situations.

That is China when it comes to Technology. With such robots, I think more lives will be saved and also see a reduction in the associated costs. Cant wait to see such in my own country Uganda although when remains the question.

We had several big fires in South Europe - Croatia, Italy, Spain, France. I didn't see anybody use this robots. Only drones for surveilance, firefighters, air tractors and canader.

This is a testament to how technology can save lives through courage and innovation. These four-legged robots are not just machines—they are modern-day heroes who go where humans can’t safely go.

Using advanced cameras, ladder-climbing legs, and powerful water cannons, they reduce the risk to rescuers and speed up firefighting. Legs instead of wheels are a great solution for harsh environments. This is a big step towards safer cities. Stay tuned for these developments—tomorrow is amazing!

Absolutely. Technology like this shows how human creativity can turn machines into life-saving partners. These robots prove that innovation is not only about comfort but also about protecting lives.
