I like what they did to some former villain characters in Mortal Kombat 1

Postby Netherrealmer » 22 Dec 2023, 11:58

Since Mortal Kombat 1 is a reboot, They decided to change fates of 3 characters. Baraka, Mileena and Reptile.

In the Original timeline of Mortal Kombat, Reptile is a shape shifting monster that turns into a green clad ninja. He was this typical Villain for heroes to beat up. A minion for you to beat up. He is a loser even in his own storymode.

In MK1 he only works for the villains because they held his wife and son hostage. Only for him to find out his family is dead. He is still a shape shifting reptile human hybrid.

Despite his tragedies, he is able to find a a new love interest with Ashrah.

In the original Mortal Kombat timeline, Mileena is a half monster clone of Princess Kitana and Kitana rejects her as a sister. The rejection turned her evil, also people are afraid of her face. To compensate on her ugly face, she dresses too sexy and wears a mask to cover her lips.

here she is without a mask.

She is not a villain anymore. Instead of a clone she is now Kitana's older twin sister and they are protective of each other.

Mileena is not a monster anymore, She is now the empress of Outworld with her sister as her general.

She did eventually turn into a monster if she gets angry but turns back to her beautiful form when she calms down. They gave the characters better personalities and better stories. In previous timelines, Johnny Cage roast Mileena on how ugly she is. Now he flirts with her.

Ed Boon creator of Mortal Kombat changed Mileena's alignment after realizing how beloved this character is when he killed her off in Mortal Kombat X. So he decided to change her story from an Outcast monster, to a Princess infected by a Virus but her family didn't reject her.

I love how the creators took the time to revamp these characters and give them more depth and complexity. It's great to see that they are no longer just one-dimensional villains, but have their own motivations and personal struggles. And, it's even more impressive that they were able to make such significant changes while still staying true to the overall Mortal Kombat universe. Kudos to Ed Boon for recognising the potential in Mileena, and making such a positive change for her character.

These changes often reflect the creativity and responsiveness of the game developers to fan feedback. It's a testament to the dynamic nature of storytelling in video games, where characters can evolve and redefine themselves based on the creative direction of the development team

You just have to give the people what they want, people are also creatives and they can express how they think a story and character should be.They would argue if this one needs to do this in the coming series and at times the creators bend a little and give in to the satisfaction of the audience. That is the case of Kitana, I am glad that she is with her family and can have a normal life.

It's just nice to know that the storytelling process isn't a one-way street. The audience cares about these characters and their journeys, and it's awesome when creators respond to that passion.

Kitana getting a shot at a more ordinary life is a win not just for the character but also for the fans who've been rooting for her. This kind of connection between creators and audience adds a layer of realness to the whole experience.

Cyrax was rewritten too, he was originally a kind hearted Botswanian Ninja who got brainwashed into a yellow Cyborg villain and his freewill and individuality was never restored he was doomed to be a mindless robot.

Mortal Kombat 1 rebooted him into a Nigerian Ninja woman that wears an exoskeleton that uses her strength good enough to fight demons and Gods. She got manipulated instead of brainwashed, She is able to fight back againts the people who manipulated her. She never became a robot.

Fans are divided though because fans of Male Cyrax felt betrayed.

It's good that they have made good decisions about the new Mortal Kombat compared to the old one, I have yet to play this new Mortal Kombat, although I understand that it has been a year since the game

It's being a reboot, need not be in alignment with the characters in previous series. They have thought well about the characters and transforming them. Each one sounds good. I like the huge change in Mileena's chatacter.

Since they turned some heroes into villains, some villains are turned into heroes for balance.

Milena without mask. When did creator publish this design? Maybe he/she got some inspiration in Resident Evil. Here is monster from Resident Evil called Nemesis. I think he is in part 3.
