How Do You Control Volume on Your Computer?

Postby friendociate » 01 Feb 2023, 18:08

I'm doing this (posting on forums, surfing the Internet, listening to Youtube videos playing in another tab) on a desktop computer my brother (who's a computer-technician at Intel in Portland, Oregon) gave me.

My computer has a speaker with a volume-dial, and that's how I do MOST of the volume on my computer. But sometimes I have 'sounds I don't want to hear much of' (video-game sounds from Facebook, etc.) drowning-out the videos; so I download a browser-addon to control the volume of certain tabs on my browser.

What do you do? Should I do something similar?

I at the moment only use the mute tab feature on the browser that I use to be able to prevent some sites from playing sound through if I am listening to something. I did know that you could install a browser addon to control the volume on each tab but I have never used it myself as I have found that just muting the tab a lot of the time is enough for me.

The monitor for my computer system is a 55 inch UHD 4K Smart TV with speakers built in that I control with the Windows slider on my taks bar as well as a control on my TV Remote.

On our TVs (one in the living room, one in my bedroom, maybe one in my housemate's bedroom), we have one remote for each smart TV with another one for the cable-service (on each)). We also have seperate remotes for the DVD-players we had hooked up (before we subscribed to streaming services).

Do you have multiple remotes like that?

Do you use that when you are writing text, e.g. when posting on forums? Do you sit far away from it, is it hard on your eyes?

I use laptop. There's a button on the keyboard for adjusting the volume of the laptop.

On how big distance is your monitor? Is it like regular TV or it is closer? What do you think about oppionio how TV should not be used as monitor?

It depends. I use headphones a lot if I watch something that I don't want anyone else to be hearing. Then I turn the volume down. If I don't use headphones, I turn the volume up again (on the computer). Oh, yes, and I tend to turn the volume of games right down, if the tune is annoying.

Is it with a dial on your speaker, the little button in your toolbar, or a browser extension?

I always have my headphones plugged in so it really does not make a difference to me

I control the volume by clicking on the Windows volume icon, in the bottom - right of the screen

I have the remote I mentioned on my computer and two remotes on our TV, One for my wife and one for me with just the on/off and volume. I don't really care what she turns on, it's all just noise anyway.

I use it for everything I do on the computer and I sit about 30 inches back from the sccreen (unless I am watching a longer video, then I roll my chair back and relax more). I don't find it's hard on my eyes, unless I stay too long at one time.

You can hold the 'Fn' function key and either press left arrow key or right arrow key to reduce the volume coming from your speaker . That way you do not have to navigate on your computer to reduce or increase the volume
That's how I do it . Very convinent
