Typing, typing errors and how to reduce them

Postby mrki444 » 11 Jan 2021, 16:51

I type pretty fast - but I also make a lot of typing mistakes. I wonder if any of you can type that just doesn’t look at at all keyboard? Do you also make mistakes and in what percentage?

I’ve watched some people, live, type incredibly fast, accurately and they almost don't look at the keyboard at all. That's fascinating to me.

Also, I’ve seen geek keyboards that don’t have any at all tags. Which is even more fascinating to me :)

For example, my fingers fly spontaneously on the board, but occasionally my eye searches for an area / key. I don't think I'll ever type completely "blindly" but I would be happy to reduce errors, at least by some 50%.

I know that a very big role, at least for me, for precise and fast typing is played by:

1.) Proper proportions and dimensions of table and chair
2.) Proper sitting in relation to the above
3.) A good keyboard, ie the one that suits you best

How many and which fingers do you use in typing?
How fast are you typing?
How many typing mistakes do you make?
What keyboards suit you?

I don't look at the keyboard because I am a trained typist, that's the way I was taught at college. If I look I will make more mistakes. That's not to say I don't make typos sometimes but I can usually tell when I have hit a wrong key by the way it feels under my fingers.

Hi, I have also seen people do that. I have to look at the keyboard, unfortunately. I am short-sided and I am not wearing my glasses or contact lenses. I still type fast but I have to look at the keyboard from now and then. I know I will get my glasses in due time and I will be able to type faster and without having to look at the keyboard.

For my errors, I use Grammarly to auto-correct them. Just don't give up. keep on practicing your pace will be better and faster. You can try downloading some apps that help you to practice typing faster. Persistence is the key here.

Do you type every time on same keyboard? What if you change keyboard size example from smaller to bigger? Would you make more mistakes?

I used to be an excellent typist, but I think that my skills are fading somewhat with age. I used to be well over 100 WPM, but now I'm maybe 90-100 WPM on a good day.

I type fair enough not that slow but not that super fast. I already know the placement of letters on the keyboard but the special characters I'm not familiar with them. I used to play typing I forgot the name of the game but that game helped me to type more faster.

You stopped type or you changed something else?

Nah, I'm typing just as much as ever. I think that I'm just getting slower as I'm aging.

I used all my fingers. I can type at least 75 words per minute. I often make mistakes while typing. I can type while not looking at my keyboard. We were trained when we were in college to type without looking at our keyboard because we have to and we were IT students. People expect us to be techy and good at using computers and other gadgets.

Practice makes perfect, to avoid typing errors constantly practice typing and fast typing too so as to minimize or eradicate errors during typing.

I have found it more easier to type without mistake if I made the size of the keyboard bigger. Also I can achieve that by typing more slower and using text prediction

I try to type without looking but sometimes have to. I'm afraid I'm not the best at typing and do make mistakes from time to time. So basically, I'm rubbish at typing. I've previously looked into transcription work and had to walk away from it because it required fast typists.

Great job. How do you choose keyboard? Do you have some specific model?

I love typing alot and I rarely make mistakes, thought that happens occassionally. I think fully concentrating in the typing reduces the mistakes.

A Logitech brand. It's soft so it's easy to type on it. Unlike our keyboards from my previous school, it's hard and noisy. Sometimes, it needs a really hard press to enter a specific letter. Oof

The three items on your list are good. But when it comes to keyboards, an ergonomic keyboard would make your hands more comfortable and lessen the chance of suffering from CTS or Carpal Tunnel Syndrome.

If you have been using the same keyboard or at least of the same keyboard layout, then your fingers will soon memorize where those none alphanumeric keys are. Sadly some keyboards are following different standards that's why some special characters are located in different parts of the keyboard.

Grammarly is one effective tool to alert you of your typos while typing, and would even apply the correction automatically.

Even with that, I don't think you will still have 100% accuracy all the time. If your brain is working at hyperspeed then there is always a chance that your fingers will miss something.

As a guru once said, if you want to attain perfection, there are three things you need to do.

1. practice
2. practice
3. Repeat number 1.

Have a nice day.
