Indians, how do you feel about this new Street Fighter character from your country?

Postby Netherrealmer » 13 Jun 2026, 20:27

For years, the only representation of India in the hit video game Street Fighter was Dhalsim. He was a yoga master who breathes fire and uses yoga as a fighting style, and he have stretchable limbs. He's one of the popular characters from Street Fighter 2, but I have seen a lot of Indians not happy of his representation because, you know, he's not handsome and he looks like someone who doesn't shower.

Well, Street Fighter created a new Indian character. His name is Arjun

He is coming out probably early next year, and I want to know if you think his design is a better representation for India. He was a former cop who got framed for a crime, and his mission is to find the real murderer to clean his name. And he has wind-based powers.

Aside from India, another country that will get representation is Philippines. The new character from Philippines is named Yasmine.

She was a high school girl from the Philippines who is an expert in Arnis or Eskrima, which is a Filipino martial arts. She was supposed to be a shy girl, but whenever she fights, she gains confidence. She learned martial arts from her grandpa and she's looking for her missing brother. Her hair is purple because it's inspired from a very popular dessert flavor right now, which is ube. And, you know, because ube is very popular these days, and ube is from the Philippines, they gave her purple hair.

I like Arjun better. But may be they could have named him "Bhim" as he resembles Bhim more than Arjun.
Interesting fact about the girl from Philippines.

I think Arjun will be coming this November, but Yasmin is coming this July because Yasmin from Philippines already have a trailer.

I think these series could do well as people would like variety in content.

Back to the topic, Arjun is basically a better Indian design than Dhalsim because, you know, Dhalsim looks like a homeless beggar.

I would be interested to know the backgrounds of and more about the creators of these characters.
That would be rather interesting to know.

This is how Dalsim is created. I think Indians will not be happy how he was created because first his name is not even a real name. During the 1980s, the dhal, you know, the Indian sauce, got popular in Japan. There is Indian restaurant in Japan have the word sim on it, so dal and shim to create Dhalsim. Now, he was inspired from a villain from a Hong Kong movie where the villain is from India and he practices yoga so well that his limbs are able to stretch very long, and that Hong Kong Indian villain probably also inspired creation of Luffy from One Piece. Dhalsim is not a villain but he was inspired from a Hong Kong movie villain.

I think Arjun is created so India will finally have a more handsome Indian character, and who will convert him into Bollywood box actor. Instead, they decided to go with an innocent cop who got framed for a crime.
