During a recent visit by Indian Prime Minister Modi to Japan, the two nations solidified a significant partnership, with a new investment target from Japan of ¥10 trillion (approximately ₹6 trillion) in India over the next decade. This commitment builds on a previous target that was met two years ahead of schedule.
A key pillar of this renewed collaboration is the "Economic Security Initiative", which focuses on critical and strategic sectors, including "clean energy".
The initiative aims to promote resilient supply chains and joint projects in areas like semiconductors, green hydrogen, and carbon markets. This move is a clear signal of Japan's confidence in India's role in the global energy transition, and it leverages Japan's technological expertise with India's large-scale market and talent pool. The partnership aims to accelerate India's goal of achieving 500 GW of renewable energy capacity by 2030 and demonstrates a shared vision for a sustainable future.
