Voice data Jobs

Postby Braids » 03 Oct 2017, 22:01

Hi.
About 1 month ago i participated in a Voice Data project for Lionbridge.
Was a bit awkward but i liked and was kinda fun. I'm interrested in doing other jobs/projects of this type so i created this topic just to ask if you guys/girls know or recommend other companys that do this kind of projects so i can apply ;)

I heard a lot about Lionbridge, but never applied to work there. What exactly is a voice data job? It sounds interesting. How was the pay? Do you do other jobs at Lionbridge? Hopefully someone will know some other sites that you can do this type of job at.

Is Linonbridge also The Smart Crowd? I signed up with them and took one test and passed but there are no available tasks to work on. Right now there are two available tests : business address matching and the one is the advance version. I do not think I like to take that test because I find it too difficult and time consuming for me. They also have data research multi language but I am not fluent in any of those languages Chinese Polish Portuguese Japanese Korean Italian etc. Whew!

Humantic is a site that pays you to review their calls. You just need to listen to call and answer their easy questions.

What do we exactly need to do to earn from this site? I am also interested. Can you give us more information about this? :)

Re: Voice data Jobs

Postby Braids » 04 Oct 2017, 11:33

@morgoodie , @blair , @anorona .
I saw a Lionbridge ad asking for Portuguese natives ( Im Portuguese ) for translation jobs, etc with no experience required.
I fill the form that was only asking for name, if you have an android device, micro,computer,etc..something like that..simple questions and a few days later i received a email to participate in this Voice Data Collection Project with the instructions.
The job/task was only record small phrases ( record one, wait a bit for the file upload, record another,etc..) and email them when i finish. Was a bit awkward because some phrases dont make any sense but i liked it.
I was paid 25 USD for 1000 setences , took around 3 hours to record them all....and looks like thats it..Voice Data is record small phrases/setences.

So i was thinking that maybe, just like there are sites/companys where you can sign/apply for translations/transciptions, maybe there are for this too. I think will be more rare but maybe there are some.

I google a bit and found other ads for the same thing, for other countrys, that already expired.

Looks like firefox have something similar but i think they dont pay..so nope https://voice.mozilla.org/

Also, about 1 week ago i recive a email from Lionbridge saying that they need Portuguese kids ( native speakers ) of age 6 to 15 to the same kind of project. Payment are much better this time so just in case some Portuguese user of this forum ( i know there are at least 2 ) have kids of this age or know someone that have kids of this age and are interrested, here it is a big part of the email with the link to apply.

"What: Improving the Speech Recognition System! The content has been adjusted to respect ages 6 to 15.
Who: Portugal Portuguese native speakers of age 6 to 15. We need at least 500 kids for this task so please feel free to spread the word!
Where: from home, using a mobile device (Android) or a computer with Chrome (no iPhone/iPad)
When: Immediate involvement
Compensation: PayPal transfer in the value of 21 USD (for 100 sentences), 37 USD (for 250 sentences), 75 USD (for 500 sentences) approximately 2-3 weeks following confirmed completion of the task. Alternatively, Decathlon/Fnac.pt Gift Card can be arranged approximately 6-8 weeks after the confirmed completion of the task if you prefer it over PayPal.
How: To participate, a parent or legal guardian can register their child for participation at http://datacollectionmin_pt-PT.register-lionbridge.com and we will contact you with more details.

Please note the following important guidelines:
This project is strictly for minors, not for adults! All audio content provided will go through QA check to ensure that data provided is from a child, and any data that is seen to be provided by an adult will be rejected and no compensation will be given.
The child participant must be registered by their parent or legal guardian, and a Parental Release form must be signed. Only participants who have fulfilled this requirement will get the task.
Feel free to contact us if you would like to recruit minors for us in this project."

If I get the whole story right, I like these voice data is more for Portuguese to translate or transcribe voice they record and this is limited to them alone except for some who understands Portuguese language.

Ok I have seen those on Mturk before. I think Appen is another site that has those types of tasks periodically. I didn't do them but if I see it again I may give it a go. Sounds like easy work for nice pay. Three hours of work for $25 isn't bad compared to what some sites pay after that amount of time.

My voice is good enough to work with local call centre but never got a chance to work. Where Lionbridge is located? Is it online site for voice data job? $25 per hour is good enough, if its online then I would like to try it.

The link for registration takes me to the spanish version of the form. So not sure if that is meant for the global audience maybe US based or mexico based spanish speaking people.

Wow, that sounds like fantastic work if you can get it...good for you!!! Thanks for the elaborate review. I've known of Lionbridge for a good while but I gave up on it ages ago because I could never get anything from it. But I've certainly heard really good things about the site. If I'm not mistaken, it operates out of London.

Takes you to the PORTUGUESE version and is only for "Who: Portugal Portuguese native speakers of age 6 to 15" ( I know, is a big text ). I only have posted that part of the email here because i know there are at least 2 other portuguese users, nela13 and darkthorn , i think that's the names and they be or know someone who be interrested.
Please dont confuse the languages, they are different ;)

Lionbridge i think is a US company but they have offices all around the world. Like i said , the Lionbridge link is just for Portuguese Kids ( native ). I dont know what kind of jobs you could do for them but i have done this Voice data for them, liked it and thas why i made the topic, to see if any one knows where i can apply to do more stuff like this ;) . Seems complicate to find

Thanks for the reputation point ;)
Yeah, i liked it but looks hard to find where you can apply to this kind of "tasks". Probably still gonna email Lionbridge and ask them about Smart Crowd , like Blair refer

Exchanged some emails with Lionbridge. SmartCrowd is a Lionbridge platform where they advertise projects.

"Smart Crowd is a Lionbridge platform and it is used to advertise various linguistic projects that the company is working on – not only acoustic data collection – so it’s worth registering and browsing for jobs there."

Three organizations come to mind: Appen, Humanatic and lionsbridge. I have not used those services but I have heard that many people have found success with humanatic.

You must have to apply if your voice is good enough. Not my voice, $25 per hour isn't clear if it is really paying for hours, or for work done.
