Exercise and keeping fit.

Postby Jantyj » 12 Jul 2016, 13:42

I spend quite a few hours sat in front of my computer each day. From the sound of it so do many other members on this site. Sitting down for too long is not good for your health.
What do you do to keep fit?
I walk my dog for an hour every day and go to a Pilates class once a week.

Tennis once a week
Tai Chi 2-3 times a week
Dodgeball once a week or more
Yoga once a week
Weight lifting 5 times a week
Gymnastics twice a week
Gym bicycle once or twice a week

To keep fit, do something you enjoy, not something you feel you ought to do.

In my offline job i'm sitting at a desk almost all the time and I also spend a couple of hours daily in internet, so it is really important for me to move and exercise. I try to walk half an hour everyday and workout two days a week, but I feel that I need something more ....

I take a brisk 30-60 minute walk every evening.

This way, I stretch my legs and also relax my eyes.

Well I don't have the money to pay for a gym membership, and I don't think I would feel all that comfortable working out at a gym anyway. But I do go to youtube and look for simple short workout routines that are at my level. They are free. and effective, so it's a win win.

I look out of the window from time to time to relax my eyes. I also do eye exercises. Looking at a screen for too long can easily lead to eye strain.

Wow, that's quite a lot, @darrensurrey....way to go! I wish I could be as enthusiastic as you LOL But I totally agree with you, you really need to go with something you enjoy if you have a any chance of sticking with it. Which is why I plan to start a Zumba class soon :)

I do yoga in early morning hours which usually lasts for half an hour or so. Sometimes I also go for a walk in the morning with my friends. The most important thing is to stick to your schedule and it will will take care of you.

I walk for about an hour after breakfast and after lunch. I also try and work at my laptop while standing up for an hour or two. I just use a temporary support made from old boxes. Standing up can be a useful type of exercise if you do it regularly!

To keep fit I like to walk at least 5 miles per day to get my blood flowing, then some light exercising at night after I got all my stuff done for the day. I also play football when I have time which is a good sport if you try to keep fit.

My only exercise is the morning push ups. Today I did 23 push ups. The maximum I could is 30 but when I don't feel well, I go down to 20 and move up 1 every day until I achieve the maximum.

I am a regular at my morning workouts. I can leave anything but not my regular walking and jogging and few Yoga postures early in the morning in a park 8KM away from my house. It is a wonderful place for the purpose and I get some of my blogging ideas there too (eavesdropping you know).

I walk daily for about 40-45 minutes each morning then a walk again in the evening to the veggies market for about 20-25 minutes. That's all, except for a few minutes of stretching exercises now and then!

lol to be honest im not much of an active person. i find it super boring going to the gym and i am usually pretty low in motivation/energy to workout so i just don't. I go whenever i feel like it and may spend like 4-5 hours in the gym on a day when i really feel like it....that could be why i get so bored in the gym, because when i do go i spend too much time and it exhausts and bores me. i usually go alone too which could be another culprit. i do try to eat right though, it's one of the most important things to do.

Since two months I am doing jogging and brisk walking at the evening. Even my job is related with computer, so I have to sit all the time. So I know I have to keep moving for having healthy body.

Thanks. It's not difficult because I enjoy doing those activities. I would throw a bit of rock climbing in there, too. I won't do something like running or cycling because I find it boring as hell. At least on a gym bike I can watch a DVD, read a book or drink a beer. Some people say they enjoy running or cycling which means that either they really enjoy the monotony of it or they don't know what fun is or they just hate their wife so much they will use any excuse to get as far away from her as possible. :D

It's a nice topic and the exercise enthusiasts are an awesome motivation for a lazy bug like me but my question is, why is this topic posted in this category? BMW?

I have also been getting into the wim hof breathing method as of late, which incorporates breathing exercises with ice baths, and exercise. It is absolutely wonderful, effective, and fabulous.
