I don't think I can do that ... maybe I'm "addicted"---a few years ago, I went about a week without 'my daily eggs' (about one egg a day), and my immune-system went crazy

My late husband's father worked at a place where they distributed eggs to the whole country of The Bahamas. My husband told me he couldn't remember a day when they did not have eggs when he was growing up. But would you believe it? The Christmas that he took me to meet his parents, the island ran out of eggs. There were no eggs anywhere! So some of the Christmas recipes we were not able to prepare. His father said to me that this was the first time in his life that had ever happened. :D

The major reason for the situation is that farmers have abandoned their farms. And all the crops used to be as a source of raw materials to produce animal feed. And fees have risen.

Pretty sure a new president won't be able to bring the price of eggs down. That goes for petrol and many other products and commodities  The price of eggs has skyrocketed everywhere, even here. At some point oil and flour were crazy expensive too.

Not in the USA. We just checked the price a day ago. It's DOUBLE what it used to be. I might as well buy a chicken and have it lay eggs. But I can't do that in the apartments where I live.

I wonder if anyone has counted the cost of the grocery-eggs vs. the costs of keeping the hens.

It isn't expensive, the chickens eat a lot of vegetables, corn and grains, on our farm we always have a lot of cabbage for them, in addition, they eat the potatoes', chayote's, turnips', carrots' skin ... and fruit skin too. Very rarely my parents buy food for them.

on my link there, they wrote:“There’s a lot of feed cost that you don’t think of, the more animals you have, a lot more food that they eat. You’ve got to have your structure, and in the wintertime, you’re looking at possibly doing a little bit of supplemental heating when it’s getting into the 20s below,” said Cade Feland, owner of chickens and ducks.

Things to consider ...

That's the price of half tray here in the Philippines. It was around $2 previously.

Well if they had brought up "feed cost" as part of the reason for price hikes, I might have considered it. But they didn't say that. They clearly said the price of eggs was high because of bird flu! At least that's what I heard on the news reports I listen to. (I know in America you might get different news reports about the same thing.) Frankly, I think they're price-gouging. But since I can't prove it, my solution to the problem is not to buy eggs. I am NOT paying $7 for an 18-peck of eggs! I got my principles!
