Biztalk: India's EV Cell Makers Charge Ahead to Undercut Chinese Pricing Dominance

Postby ptrikha21 » 27 May 2026, 16:07

Indian lithium-ion cell manufacturers aggressively deploy localization strategies to slash the 20–30% price gap with Chinese rivals.

Industry leaders like Exide Energy Solutions, Amara Raja, Agratas, and Ola Electric scale up manufacturing lines while leveraging local supplier development.

Expiring tax exemptions in China will trigger a 9% surge in imported cell costs by early next year, handing India a strategic window.
Simultaneously, domestic executives are lobbying the Union government for key raw material incentives to build a robust, self-reliant EV supply ecosystem.

However, with the current Middle East crisis, it would be tough for the Government to provide more tax breaks. Let us wait & see.

More competition in the production of EV batteries sounds like a good thing. It will help reduce the cost of electric cars. I do wonder what the environmental impact is.
