The word "Abandon" comes from a wordroot that means "to Proclaim-, Summon- or Outlaw At or -To (see Ban)" or (for the "Freedom from Self-Restraint"-sense of the word) "to Surrender, Release"---a root shared with "Abandons, Abandoned, Abandoning, Abandonment, Abandonments."
