Where I live people are paying good money to darken their skin. Can't people be happy with what they have?

The ideas in the link are well taken. I use some simple methods to lighten my skin. i will mix sandal powder, turmeric to milk and apply a pack on the face leave it for 15 minutes and wash with cold water, then apply another pack of yogurt with gram flour and leave it till it is completely dry and wash it. It will leave the skin fresh, soft and bright.

Companies are earning money from the both the side. In some countries they are selling creams to lighten the skin tone and in other countries, they are selling creams to darken the skin tone. In both cases, they are just making fool of us.

I have a very fair skin but would love to tan easily. I remember someone asking me if I was ill when I didn't wear any blusher once because I look pale without it. As oldbuddy says we should be happy with what we've got and not worry about what others think.

I have no reason to want to lighten my skin color. Hell, I'm white enough already. What I don't understand is why people want to lighten their skin to become white? Being white isn't the brightest thing in the world sometimes. People should be happy with the color they are.

Yes,people should be happy with how they look but then again, to each their own. Sometimes this colour toning backfires and one looks like they came straight out of a "thriller" clip

We always want something we don't have. Some darker skinned people prefer to be lighter skinned while it's fashionable for Caucasians to have tanned skin. When it comes to us women, if have straight hair, we crave curly or wavy hair and vice versa. We're just never happy with what we have. I think it's human nature.

I wouldn't want to lighten my face to the point where it's a shade or more lighter!! I prefer to have even skin tone all over my face, but really prefer to keep my brown skin LOL

I Tried to Use Lemon for lightning of my face, tho it didnt work much on Lightning of my FACE. but it did help me to lightn freckles. But usage of some of these things caused my friend cancer of skin. He was dark skined so he applied what not! poor first got red pathces upon skin later was discoverd with cancer of skin. he died recently

I heard that the creams used for whitening the skin contains chemicals and it is not good for the skin and over a period of time, it will cause some side effects damaging the skin or even skin cancer. So i opt the natural way only like yogurt pack or fruit pack .But I do not think we can change the natural colour of the skin in any way

Green tea helps as well. So do salt baths if I remember correctly. I always liked looking into natural ways to lighten my skin, because even though I'm white and rather pale already, I always found it beautiful on myself. Plus too many people around me try to get ugly fake tans and they just come out orange. I want to look as far from that as possible.

The only reason I would understand for someone to use a lightening or darkening solution is to target specific areas of the skin. Perhaps due to stress, sleepless nights or disease there could be light or dark patches on certain areas of the skin.

@Happyland.......I can also understand that if it's done to even out skin if it's got unsightly brown patches, for instance. However, even then, there are so many safer options on the market nowadays, people don't have to resort to drastic measures. Stuff like 'skin brighteners' target the problem areas without bleaching your skin, and serve only to even out skin tone.

There are so many people who are so willing to go all the way to lighten their skins for some reason but I would rather you just eat the right foods and let the skin lighten naturally not artificially

I hope this is not considered as off-topic. I didn't check the link cos I don't want to lighten my skin. As others has stated, we crave what we don't have. I'm so sick of this nonsense cos the girls here they are too obsessed with beauty standard. I am not attractive to most people here but I am healthy and I love it.

However, there is an unconscious mindset to explain this phenomenal. In the East, from the beginning of society, the rich stayed inside while the poor went outside to do farm jobs under the sun. Thefore, light skin equals to wealth and high social status. It shows that that person has a good job (stay indoor with AC) and has money for skin lightening product lol. Dark skin means you have blue collar jobs.

Similarly, Westerners see tan people as the rich cos they have time or money to darken their skin. Don't we all want people to have positive impression about ourselves? Hence, this ridiculous trend, it has been going on for too long, way too long and I don't think it will ever stop.

I have tried to go to the link that has been provided but theres an error and theres nothing there to be read about skin whitening.

Here in our country people buy expensive soaps lotions for skin whitening or even pay a huge amount for a dermatologist for a gluthation injection.

For me I'm satisfied with my color brown. Skin color is never an issue at my side.
