Total Eclipse of the Heart was written by Jim Steinman for a Nosferatu musical. It was a musical about Dracula but he cant finish the script so he turns a song about Dracula seducing a woman into a love song. The music video is about Bonnie Tyler playing the role of a teacher who is secretly in love with one of her students. The real context of the song is Dracula telling a woman to turn around so he can seduce her and drink her blood.

The Vampire musical eventually happened years after the song becomes a hit.

They exist but not in paranormal way. There are people with a mental condition that gives them blood fetish so they drink blood. It wont make them immortal. They just drink or bathe in blood.

Dracula is based from Vlad the Impaler. A prince who impales people to death and he uses their blood to build his castle.

The other vampire is Elizabeth Bathory, A Princess who kills her maids and bathe on their blood in hopes it will make her young.

Wait, WHAT?! So 'Total Eclipse of the Heart' was basically supposed to be Dracula's Tinder anthem? 🧛♂️ That explains why it's so dramatic and extra - I always thought Bonnie Tyler was just REALLY intense about heartbreak.

The fact that Jim Steinman basically took a vampire's pickup lines and turned it into one of the greatest power ballads ever is kind of genius. "Turn around bright eyes" hits different when you imagine fangs instead of heartbreak.

And the music video being about a teacher's forbidden crush makes SO much more sense now - it was probably the closest they could get to vampire vibes in the 80s without being too obvious.

This might be my new favorite music trivia - the fact that the vampire musical eventually happened years later is the perfect cherry on top. Now I need to listen to it again while imagining Dracula doing dramatic arm waves in a cape. 🎶

Because Dracula is from Europe. Also US viewers don't like subtitles. If you want some original about Dracula, it should be on Romanian language.

The video link that you shared is NOT her original version.
The song she did was a powerful protest, and I understood everything she said.
That Lee Perry remake (or remix) makes her “message” sound weak.
I can't find her original song anywhere. It's probably been banned.
