The first colored movie ever

Postby Netherrealmer » 11 Dec 2024, 20:53

This movie is public domain and its created in 1902. Its a silent film so it has no sound. Its titled a trip to the moon.

It was deemed too expensive so they stick with the Sepia (pre-black and white) movies.

Sepia was eventually replaced by Black and White films. Until Technicolor movies are born. The Unlike trip to the moon, Red Balloon is the first colored movie with sound. This french film is the first technicolor

Correct me if I am wrong but Wizard of Oz is the first colored American movie.

Movies have come a long way since those days. But those movies were so innovative for their time. The Red Baloon reminds me of the movie Up.

This is interesting. I did not know that we could create colored films at the turn of the 20th century.
Human inventiveness is indeed enduring.

Moon is always very interested topic. I am not sure why people give up from flying there and also there is less high popular movies with Moon topic. Last one I can remeber was Transformers and Dark side of Moon.

When I watch movies like that, it is a mixture of feelings that I get. I would not say nostalgia since it isn't memories I have lived in. It is just a feeling that makes me think about the past and also how far technology has come in a very fantastic way.

Most sources say that the movie, "The Gulf Between" was the first colour American movie. It was released in 1917 compared to the Wizard of Oz that was released in 1930.

How interesting this is, I always asked myself, what is the first color movie? How crazy to think that it was in 1902, that in that year color films could already be created, it seems complete and total madness to me.
By the way, here I leave you the remastered version with AI in HD

That's interesting. I was not sure that the first colored movie was in early 20th century. It came pretty late to Indian cinema. Mughal e azam had a song that was in colour. And the filmmakers took this expensive step to do justice for the beautiful set up..it made headlines in it's time and is still a timeless creation of Bollywood.

Good things take time, it does take longer to start with colored movies and then add voice to them. A lot has happened behind the scenes to the cinema we have today
