Ah, we don't have rabies in Australia. It's not super common for pet cats to get rabies in the US though (I don't know about other places). Domestic cats are usually vaccinated against it. Different with strays of course. Same with dogs.
Edit: I read that you can only get rabies from the saliva of an infected animal, so you don't get it from their poo, it would be if they bite you, which could happen.

Most diseases you can get from cats are pretty much only dangerous to babies and people with compromised immune systems. But yeah, if you're really unlucky it could kill you then.

Yeah, people can be allergic to cats. That's gross about one eating a baby, but plausible if it was starving I suppose.
