Murder mysteries

Postby Jem Smith » 26 May 2024, 01:45

Do you enjoy murder mysteries, either in books, films or TV shows? Do you have a favourite?

I'm a big Agatha Christie fan, and have read most of her books (not quite all I think, I lost track since there are so many). I enjoyed the recent adaptations of some of her books, like A Haunting in Venice (although it's quite different from the book and has a different title).

That makes two of us! I love murder mysteries, whether it's tv shows of books, and Agatha Christie is up there with my faves (definitely number 1 for books). I read alot of her books and watched the movie adaptations many moons ago as a teen. Murder on the Orient Express and Death on the Nile have always stuck with me because I not only read the books but also watched the movies. The iconic Hercule Poirot was always the cherry on top for me.

Let's just say I eat up murder mysteries, especially movies/tv shows. Sometimes I wonder if it's healthy to consume it at the rate I do. When I go on a binge, it's hard to stop. I'm currently on a break, though LOL

Nice.

I read a good Australian murder mystery recently called Everyone In My Family Has Killed Someone by Benjamin Stevenson. It's in the style of an Agatha Christie mystery but set in the Blue Mountains in New South Wales. I recommend it.

I use to like the anime detective conan until its episode count became 3000 and I became overwhelmed.

Yeah I just stopped watching for a year because of war and when I returned the episodes multiplied, I stopped but it is good, the number of episodes is just eeky for me. Izombie is good, Its a CW drama where a zombie eats brains of murder victims which gives her memories and skills of the victim which she uses to catch the murderer.

I'm just reading the sequel to it now: Everyone on This Train is a Suspect. There is a hilarious bit where a minor character who wants to be a private detective, despite having no experience or qualifications and no PI licence, tries to use Chat GPT to solve a crime.

That was a weird one. Very dark for a comedy.

Something I noticed in most murder mysteries is that the killer is usually the secondary villain, not the top villain, because the top villain is obvious, or one of the nice people, because they're the least suspected person to be the killer

Yep, it's not usually the most obvious person, unlike in the real world where it's usually the spouse/partner.

I love the investigation part of it especially if it has Mosaad in it.
