Conservatives butthurt about Bluey

Postby Jem Smith » 27 Apr 2024, 06:34

Bluey is an Australian children's television show which has gained some popularity overseas. Recently, the show has come under fire from conservatives for including a gay character. To clarify, Pretzel, a friend of Bluey's, mentions in passing that he has two mums. That's it- there's no onscreen kiss or anything, you don't even see her mums, they were just mentioned once, and yet people are going on about boycotting the show because if it, convinced that a cartoon dog having gay cartoon dog parents will somehow harm children, or saying that Bluey has "gone woke" (obviously coming from people who have never seen the show before).

If you haven't seen it, it's a fun show that many adults enjoy as well. I'm not sure where you might find it streaming overseas, but apparently it's popular in many countries.

No, it was commissioned by the Australian Broadcasting Corporation (ABC) in 2016 as a children's show. That would be before the Elsagate thing kicked off. There are fake Bluey cartoons on YouTube, but they came after the real show, not before.
Edit: Oh, did you mean that there are legit episodes on Youtube now? That is correct. You have to pay to watch it though.

I've actually met one of the writers of the show. It's set in Brisbane, where I live, and he is also from here.

The house that Bluey's family live in on the show is based on a real house, which is now an Air Bnb.
