Back in the 80s and 90s, cartoons used either the "Action figure style":


In the early 2000s, they used the "Geometric Style":

From the 2010s to the 2020s, the most prevalent cartoon art style is now the 3D Pixar style (what most Disney movies use these days) and the SoCal art style.
SoCal characters are a combination of ugly and cute. They use round and simple shapes to hypnotize audience. Majority of American Cartoons uses this because its simpler to draw for animators.


Even 3d animations uses SoCal look too,
No Wonder people prefer Anime these days.
I'm happy X-men 97, Invincible and Mortal Kombat legends uses Action Figure style instead of SoCal. I heard SoCal became popular because its less torture to draw for animators since characters are not realistic and it makes the characters less sexy since sexiness' makes conservative moms and feminists angry.
I mean look what SoCal Art style did to Thundercats:
