I hate Socal Art style

Postby Netherrealmer » 24 Mar 2024, 15:59

Most American cartoons right now use the SoCal art style. It's what most cartoons in the USA use when it comes to 2D animation. Why do animation studios use it? It produces subliminal messages to the audience, making it easier to memorize characters.

Back in the 80s and 90s, cartoons used either the "Action figure style":

In the early 2000s, they used the "Geometric Style":

From the 2010s to the 2020s, the most prevalent cartoon art style is now the 3D Pixar style (what most Disney movies use these days) and the SoCal art style.

SoCal characters are a combination of ugly and cute. They use round and simple shapes to hypnotize audience. Majority of American Cartoons uses this because its simpler to draw for animators.

Even 3d animations uses SoCal look too,

No Wonder people prefer Anime these days.

I'm happy X-men 97, Invincible and Mortal Kombat legends uses Action Figure style instead of SoCal. I heard SoCal became popular because its less torture to draw for animators since characters are not realistic and it makes the characters less sexy since sexiness' makes conservative moms and feminists angry.

I mean look what SoCal Art style did to Thundercats:

I hate SoCal, No wonder Anime is beating Cartoons.

What do you mean by subliminal messages? Can you give an example?

I'm not a fan of this art style either.

Apparently The round and simple socal arts makes kids watch more. Thats why its now more use in America over Action Figure style, Geometric, anime inspired and photo realistic. Adults prefer Anime and Action Figure

That's not really a subliminal message. A subliminal message would be like "join the army" (like in that Simpsons episode where Bart joins a boyband) or "eat vegetables" hidden in the show. This is just making it appealing to the audience they want.
