Barbenheimer

Postby Netherrealmer » 24 Jul 2023, 08:14

The Unlikely rivalry in the box office, Oppenheimer and Barbie are the 2 big rivals for the box office now.

Image These 2 movies have nothing in common. Aside from both leading actors are former Batman villains.

Oppenheimer A depressing historical drama movie about the scientist who invented the Nuclear bomb While Barbie is a whimsical Comedy about a doll who have existential crisis because she cant stop thinking about death while other Barbies are happy.

They say watching Oppenheimer first then Barbie second is a good experience because a depressing movie followed by a comedy works well.

On their first day global earnings.

Barbie breaks even all of its budget because it made $382,427,211
Oppenheimer made $209,212,523 , That sounds small compare to Barbie but Oppenheimer is R-18 so that's a victory for a movie with a smaller audience.

I've been enjoying all the Barbenheimer memes on social media lately. I want to see the Barbie movie, but I'm not keen to see Oppenheimer (just not my thing).

From what I hear about Oppenheimer people expected more science in movie. Except few scenes, it is more about his personal life than life as scientist.

Imagine years ago they want to cast Amy Schumer as Barbie but she quits.... I don't think they will earn 400 million dollars if this is their Barbie:

I have never heard of Barbenheimer but I will have to look into it. Barbie on the other hand is of course for little females who like the dolls

I am yet to watch either of them. But I am hearing positive reviews about both. My elder daughter watched Oppenheimer with her friends and she praised it. My younger one watched Barbie with her friends and she loved it. Both are doing well with box office.

People like more blonde girls than scientist. Same pattern is visible everywhere. How many views on news portal get blonde in bikini and how much some science research?
Also, nuclear bombs are not in currently. Blondes are in all time.

Oppenheimer is banned in Japan because they are the victim of Nuclear bomb.

I am getting positive reviews about both the movies. I have friends who have watched both and praised them equally. I am too busy right now to go for movies. Even my weekends are getting packed these days. I hope that they are available on OTT platforms soon and I can watch them at my convenience.

Spoilers

[+] Spoiler
Ken ends up as the villain, when he goes to the real world, He realized Kens are second class citizens, they are oppressed by the Barbies. I mean they don't have home and jobs. A Ken can only have a house if he have a Barbie. Barbie never loved him back throughout those years.

Also he realize Barbie has been friendzoning him for 64 years. So he brought Patriarchy in Barbieland to make the Barbies experience the Oppression Kens experienced.Fans expected Barbie and Ken to be a couple but there is no romance

That twist offense many conservatives but I think its a good twist.

Why do we compare this movie? Expect close date of release in cinema, they don't have much similar. Life of physicst and Barbie.
We now compare on of biggest mind in history with plastic doll? :?:

May not make sense but the Random rivalry made both movies box office success, meme marketing seem to be the best marketing because its accidental. Also both movies lead characters got existential crisis. One cannot stop thinking about death and the other becomes death himself.

In my lifetime, I would have never expected Barbie AND Oppenheimer to even be used in the same sentence.

That being said, I just heard a ridiculous news report. It seems that the movie is responsible for a lot of couples breaking up. Couples who went to see the movie together ended up breaking up after they saw the movie. Evidently, Barbie made these women understand that they were in a bad relationship. ?????

Though there is no comparison between the stories, one can't deny that they did become a rival on box office because of their release dates falling the same time. It's good to see that both movie on strikingly different realms and with different target audience have done equally well.

I agree with this. Movie boxes always watch competition and start story but people on social media actually make much more marketing than them.

I have not watched Barbie or Oppenheimer. I am not interested in Barbie but I wanted to watch Oppenheimer, but I changed my mind because they started saying the movie is too intellectual, you need to understand physics.

People wants Ryan Gosling to win best actor after his performance as Ken. Also they want the song "I'm just Ken to win best song. It became the "friend zone" anthem when it is supposed to be the villain song.
