Delicious Dips - Book Review

Postby Spontaneo » 03 Apr 2023, 00:48

Summary

Sociable, indulgent television grazing and healthier alternative to commercially produced high-fat salty foods, dips continue to be enduringly popular, as stated in “Delicious Dips” by Ryland Peters & Small.

Also, whether served with bread strips, breadsticks, crisp tortilla chips or crunchy crudites, there is a dipper to suit every dip!

delicious dips.jpg

*Cucumber & Mint Tzatziki
A Greek classic, this creamy combination of yogurt, cucumber and fresh mint is so simple to make and unique!

*Ranch Dip With Sweet Potato Chips
Ranch dip is an All-American classic. It is light and bursting with herb flavors!

*Pea, Feta & Fresh Mint Dip
This is light and creamy with a perfect saltiness from the feta.

Opinion

I was selfish and chose to highlight the top 3 on my list… Cucumber, Ranch Dip and Peas!

I guess the Cucumber & Mint Tzatziki recipe is going against my teaching of being frugal. Yes, yogurt is expensive. Maybe a splurge every once in a while can’t hurt? Maybe wait for sales?

As for Ranch Dip, have you ever just wanted to drench your salads with an entire bottle of Ranch dressing?

Don’t you just love peas? As for the Peas recipe, maybe a good way to get your kids to like peas!

I give this book a 5-star rating!

How easy are the dips to make? Do they require good cooking / kitchen skills?

The recipes that I highlighted do not require being cooked. Many of my readers know that I highlight no-cook recipes as I almost burnt my kitchen on fire when making cauliflower pizza a few years ago. I swore that I would never use an oven or stove ever again.

I rely on air fryers, microwaves, crock-pots, blenders, and countertop burner plates.

Also, I had to teach myself how to cook. My mother never wanted me in the kitchen. She was always afraid that I would get hurt.

So, the no-cook recipes are good for children who are learning! (who are allowed in the kitchen, that is!)

Thanks for your reply and for clarifying that @Spontaneo.

Which would you recommend for someone who is new to cooking - an air fryer or a crock-pot? I mean if they were only going to buy one of them, which would be the best option for them to get started with cooking?

Yes, air fryers are new and exciting, but crock-pots are the way to go. As a matter-of-fact, that is how I got started! Guess who gave me a crock-pot when moving out on my own? My mother Rose! How could I get hurt, right? ;)

People began to call me the "crock-pot queen".

You can buy a large crock-pot at the local dollar store for $25.00 and borrow crock-pot cookbooks from the local library.

Buy such cookbooks at the summer yard sales also!

I believe this book has so many recipes for a variety of dips, spreads, and sauces that are perfect for entertaining or adding flavor to your everyday meals.
I love the classic favorites like guacamole, which is so delicious just by looking at the pictures I'm salivating.

The recipes are creative, easy to follow, and guaranteed to impress your guests or family.

Would you like to read more cookbook reviews? Lately I have been submitting to vocal.media! There is a community there named "book club". I have not submitted much, as my plate is full.

A roommate told me that she would go through my closet with me this evening. I have a ton of stuff that I need to donate. Now she said that she does not want to. Where and how do I place this stuff? I live upstairs. Our basement is full. Our garage is full. uuugh

I want to donate this stuff to the Salvation Army.

My other roommate texted that she could take me to the Salvation Army but did not tell me where to store the donations. She is at work. I do not want to bother her.

You are so lucky you are living in the States. I gave up on Vocal when I was requested to pay for a stripe account in order to receive my payments, so I haven't written to Vocal for a minute now. In case I make any money I plan to invest in paying for a Stripe account.

I wish I was your neighbor you donate some of the staff to me. Xoxo.
