Are you still Watching TV after Netflix/Disney+/Prime Video?

Postby RicAngelo » 28 Feb 2023, 11:28

Hello, this is my first post, honestly i dont know what to write, but let me make it as my first post. I still remember 30 years ago when i was 9 or 10 years old, i still love to watched TV everyday and i continue doing that untill graduate from high school. My university years i didnt watch TV so much because i hade my own activity or part time job.

After graduating from university, i moved to Jakarta (the capital of Indonesia) and work for several companies i didnt watch TV anymore that time, i only watch my favorite show on TV Cable or i bought some DVD's to watch some American Movies or Series. I did that to improve my english, though i still learn untill right now.

Years gone by, and Netflix era is here and i try to subscribe to this OTT (over the top) and i found my favorite show there (Friends) after that untill now i always renew my subs for Netflix. I also subs for Disney+ and Amazon Prime (for Amazon i only subscribe if want to watch some movies or series there).

The reason why i still subs Netflix untill right now is simple, my wife and my daughter watch it daily, my wife is Korean Drama lovers and Netflix know how to please them.

Back to my question, are you still watching TV (local or cable tv) while Netflix, Disney+ or Prime Video trying so hard to win our heart?

I can't watch more than 10 minutes of TV before I fall asleep, but my wife has lots of CBS shows like the FBI series she likes. I don't know, maybe she just likes putting me to sleep.

Since age is no longer creeping up on me, but rushing in like an NFL ball carrier on 4th down from the 1 yard line. it's very simple.

I stopped watching TV after high school. Cable became ridiculously expensive, and the regular "free" channels never had anything good on. Nowadays, I'll watch old shows on my computer (that were previously aired on TV), but I don't actually sit in front of a TV to watch live TV.

Netflix started loading up on Korean dramas so I am a loyal Netflix viewer. As for Disney+ and Prime Video, I only watch if my kids give me access. But since they don't have K-dramas, I'm not interested.

Yes, I still watch local TV because there is a channel that plays old TV shows from when I was growing up like Perry Mason The Rifleman, etc.

No . we stopped paying for the cable tv years ago . Now we have been streaming online for more than 3-4 years now . Mostly from Prime Video and Disney+ . And sometimes I like to pirate shows and movies which are unavailable in my region due to "restrictions" which these streaming services face

When we were young,we had very limited options of entertainment and TV was the in thing. Now, it is loosing it's popularity with so many other options of entertainment present. I don't watch much of anything be it TV or other options..My entertainment watching is limited to weekends. My husband still watches few TV news channels and he is regular with them.

My current situation is such a a sad one. I barely have time to watch anything, and when I do it best be something educational preferably some lessons on dentistry to fine polish myself. It's such a pity.

I remember when I was watching Netflix, that was before I was employed. I barely have time though this weekend I may try to binge watch.

I tried Netflix ages ago but ditched it when I realised the content was very region-specific. My husband and I had watched everything they offered in southern Africa and felt most of the content was beyond stale. Then we had a horrible experience when we cancelled because they kept taking money out of our account for about a year and then refused to give it back  So NEVER again. We now dip in and out of Amazon Prime, but mainly use streaming services.

My TV has been out of order for some good time. Yet we have Netflix, Amazon Prime as well as YouTube and that is enough to provide good entertainment.
One constraint at times is that there is buffering during highly watched Sports events like IPL Cricket and in that respect, TV telecast was better.
As for other stuff, we have good options with Streaming Services.

Yes i do watch tv somtimes or better still i would rather download it myself cause i feel watching it on this platforms are a waste. After paying for subscription, i would have to also use data in watching.

I went to Fanc to buy a DVD to offer as a gift and I found out that stores no longer sell DVDs, from now on if you want to see a movie you must pay for a streaming service. We used to borrow and lend DVDs among friends but that won't be possible in the future.

I'm tired of regular TV. With streaming, I can binge-watch my favorite shows, discover new series and movies, and even explore different genres and international content. The ability to watch on-demand and without commercials is a game-changer. So yeah, I'm definitely leaning more towards streaming services these days. They just seem to have that perfect blend of choice, flexibility, and uninterrupted enjoyment that regular TV lacks.
