Mainly this: A routine, everyday job (supporting- & supported by-a loving family) is 'The American Dream' (or whatever
you call "
the ideal by which equality of opportunity is available to any American, allowing the highest aspirations and goals to be achieved").
That said, 'movies about high-school "failures" who "make good" after high-school' (
CENTRAL INTELLIGENCE,
REVENGE OF THE NERDS (and//or its sequels), etc.) are mostly made by/for people who didn't reach 'The American Dream'---to show us that--tho we
could've had good lives--we aren't failures!
(Does that sound like 'greeting-card,' 'don't be a sore loser,' 'look on the bright side,' placation? Maybe it is, but "This Too Shall Pass.")
