My sister just marathoned every single version as of this posting of the movie Miss Granny. Its a Korean fantasy movie with a simple universal plot.

It's about a widowed 70 year old who raised her son by herself after her husband died from the war. She originally wanted to be a singer but never gets to pursue her dreams because she dedicated her life for her son. She was very proud her son became a professor after all the sacrifices she made.

We know Asian men still lives with their parents even if they are married so she lives with her grandchildren and daughter in law. Her daughter in law and her don't get along and she have a heart attack because she cant stand her mother in law. The son is forced to choose between his wife and his mom and he chose his wife and decided that he will send his mom to an elderly home.

She runs away after hearing that her son will sent her to an elderly home and runs away out of the pain of betrayal. God Pitied her so he turned her back into a 20 year old woman, giving her a chance to pursue her dreams to become a singer.

This movie have so many remakes in Asia!

There are is also an upcoming Mexican Version, German remake, A korean tv series version and a second Indian version. The first Indian version is for the Tamil speaking regions of India and a Bollywood remake will be made for the Hindi speaking regions of India.

China had a second remake but for television.

USA will have 2 remakes !!! A Hollywood remake for most Americans and Spanish remake for the hispanic community in the US. I guess this plot is universally appealing because people wants a second chance in life.

All of the remakes are usually shot for shot remake with minor tweaking for the country's culture.

What an interesting movie. The story seems to be so interesting. I already wrote the name (I have a list with the movies I want to watch) and soon I will research about the movie and will watch it
However, with so many remakes I don't know what version should I watch...

About which version you should watch.......

The original is the most authentic because they casted an actual 20 year old to play the younger version. The other version used women on their late 20's and early 30's. The granny here is very foul mouthed like most grannies are.

The Indonesian version have an Audrey Hepburn look alike for the lead role.

The Japanese version is the feminist version. She have a daughter instead of a son and her daughter is divorced. I guess the daughter is the amalgamation of the son and the daughter in law.

The Indian version have so many dance numbers that has nothing to do with the plot. Very broadway I guess. This version is very religious.


The Filipino version have the best singer,Miss Granny wanted to be a singer and the Miss Granny in this version can sing. Some of the songs are in English.

The Thai version gives more backstory on her youth.

The Vietnam version focuses more on the comedic side of things.

The Chinese version is also good but the granny here obviously have multiple botox.

Miss Granny is one of the K-dramas on my watch list. I had no idea there were so many versions. It's more popular than I realized. I'm going to check it out.

Don't you think this is overkill? Why don't they change it up a bit? Make one for a grandpa. LOL.

The China version have a tv remake too using the same granny actress and she have a living husband and they both become young too but the supernatural elements are replaced with science

Lot of Webtoon writers are not even Korean, although Webtoon is a Korean company. There are Webtoon writers that are American, British, and came from other countries with no connection to Korea. Although they make the characters Korean in hopes that their Webtoon will be adapted into a K-drama.

I have watched a lot of Korean dramas, but this is the first time I am hearing about this one.
