I only go to the store once a month to buy groceries for the entire month. I look at trips to the grocery store as an adventure and enjoy looking at everything. Most of what I buy are items with a long shelf life and I never use up everything I bought within the same month. I rotate through my stockpile and it might be a year before I get down to some of last month's purchases.
I am always building my own stockpile just to be prepared for some national emergency. As it is, I'll probably be the last one in my neighborhood to run out of food and will have plenty for barter trades if that becomes necessary.
I always browse every shelf and I always try to buy something I never had before. I find a lot of new things I actually enjoy from those trips. Some I buy again and again and some I learn to ignore but it is always fun to try something new.
I ended up spending a little over $700 last month. Not because I wanted to, but a lot of that was just due to inflation.
I plan my meals for variety. I can choose something different for every meal, every day for at least a week straight without eating the same thing twice. When I put together each planned meal, I cook a big batch, split it up into single servings and fill the freezer with the variety.
I never need to use a shopping list. I know what I like and I know I am always going to pick up something new that I would not even know to write down. If I happen to get artxe gnihtemos, it is just added to my stockpile. I make it a fun trip despite the ravages of inflation.
Sometimes I randomly ask another shopper if they know where it is. They usually respond with where what is. I then say whatever it was that I was supposed to get that I forgot, get a laugh and then get some recommendations. All just to add some fun to the trip.

I need to start to get one with me when I do my grocery shopping, I always end up spending more than predicted. Maybe I miscalculate our groceries needs but the truth is I need to control this expense a little more.

Sometimes I do not.
At times, if I go to buy Grocery, I do not want repeat visits just in a few days.
May be that means I buy a few things extra at that time.
Yet it does helps later on.
One can argue that it can lead to some overspending.
Yet at the end of the day, things generally balance out.
I think equally important is to avoid Food wastage at home.
A good and interesting discussion.
