Jarka the Karka, Wearer of Many 'Hats'

Postby friendociate » 09 Feb 2023, 21:47

"Karka" is a Vedic translation of the horoscope-sign Cancer (I like the Vedic because a) it's not also an English synonym for 'a vampire-disease' (making my answer to "What's your sign?" tell people that I'm a leeching virus that feasts on their lifeforce) ...Image ... and b) it jumped out at me (when I looked over the synonyms) because it rhymes with part of a nickname my mother has for me.)

But the point is that I am a Wearer of Many 'Hats' (here of-course referring to the 'different occupations'-meaning of that word, though I DO have quite a few of the head-coverings).

Of course there are the ones I wear by 'being born & staying alive': "Son" - Nephew - Grandson - Great-grandson - Great-nephew (I think they skip the 'grand' when they're talking about Aunts & Uncles & Nieces & Nephews ... or do they? Finding those kinds of things out is how I wear one of my 'chosen' hats :ugeek: ), Cousin, Second Cousin, Cousin-Once Removed, -Twice-Removed ... the whole cousin deal ...

Staying alive, I become a Brother-in-Law, an Uncle ... other things you might remember for me in your comments (Oh, I'm sure I'd like to be a Husband, Father, Grandfather, Great-grand ... etc.; but that doesn't seem to be the plan for now).

I chose to be a Student, I tried to become a Musician (Violin, Percussion, Piano), a Thespian (Actor, Director, Producer etc.) and a Writer (not really "Published," but it's what we're doing here; yeah?); but a 'hat' that is practally "glued on" is my 'Traumatic Brain-Injury'-hat, and that makes the other hats harder to put on!
Image(the closest I can find to 'a picture of my TBI-Survivor hat)
Well, the 'Dropout'-hat fits pretty well; leading me to don the Philosopher-hat (which usually goes with the Theology-hat), the Political-Commentary/Comedy hat (though the Comedy hat also accompanies the other hats I try on  ), and right now I'll don my Etymologist hat and tell you,

The word Hat is probably built on a wordroot that means "Tuft- or Crest of a Bird" or "Helmet." - Hat Hats TopHat TopHats HatBox Hatless HatRack HatRacks Hatter Hatters

(The 'Occupation'-sense probably comes from 'the Hard-Hat being worn by a construction-worker!... or maybe 'the Cowboy-hat, Baseball-cap, ... can you think of any "jobs that might've originated hat-names"?'

(or maybe that sense comes from the Amy Grant song!)
