Social media hackers

Postby lightning18 » 10 Aug 2015, 07:50

Have you experienced someone hacking your facebook or other social media accounts? What is your take on identity theft? I have a friend who experienced identity theft and she was used to steal money from a man who he thought was her. How do you protect your account from identity theft?

I haven't experienced my accounts being hacked before. There are a few ways to secure your account in my opinion:
1st. Use a strong password ( In my opinion, more than 12 character's, a mix of uppercase, lowercase characters, symbols and numbers )
2nd. Don't use dictionary words ( They are easily crackable )
3rd. Don't use the same password on all sites ( it doesn't always have to be different in my opinion, but it is risky to use the same for each site )

I know a certain person who was a victim before. He was shocked because he don't know how someone do it. I think we need to make our password to be complicated and nothing about our information should be incorporated with our password. Facebook owner even advised us to change our password every month if we can do so.

A few minutes ago I was trying to sign up with this new site I found but I felt a bit cautious and stopped when I was about to fill out the personal information page. I am not sure what they will do with that but who knows this might just be another scam site phishing for information.

On my social media account there was one attempt to login and was surprised to see that the country of origin is from .... I will not mention the name as I do not want people to associate hacking or identity theft with this country alone. We should be careful with clicking links and trying free offers or downloading apps and software from untrusted sources.

I personally have not encountered that, maybe because my account is not valuable enough for someone to take the effort to hack into my account. I am guessing those have their account hacked, must be very popular or pretty or handsome

There are many sites that often required you to key in your personal information such as name, age, e-mail address. These are quite basic compared to how Microsoft, and data collecting applications operating silently behind the scene. However, you can also key in a fake name or your initials to hide them.

Hello! It never happened to me such a situation. It is a very dull situation!
I think the best strategies to not happen that's never give your password to anyone and regularly exchange password as well.
However, it can still happen. There are hackers with an amazing ability. All it takes is a distraction ... ;)

I had experienced it once on my facebook account. I had also experienced that a hacker is trying to hack my own account so I immediately change my password. I suggest that you change your password once a month. I have encountered some of the websites that they require for security question and I think it`s safe for the users.

I agree, one of my friend also has this problem too. Facebook and many social media sites can be easily targeted and intercepted by hackers. I guess the word, knowledge is power still is true in this world.

I haven't encountered these bad thing but I am afraid if it will happen to me someday. that is why I make sure to stay vigilant in using public wifi and cafe's, or not to use because it is prone to hacking and bad people. :x
