I have a friend who experienced identity theft and she was used to steal money from a man who he thought was her. How do you protect your account from identity theft?

On my social media account there was one attempt to login and was surprised to see that the country of origin is from .... I will not mention the name as I do not want people to associate hacking or identity theft with this country alone. We should be careful with clicking links and trying free offers or downloading apps and software from untrusted sources.
