Just "google" it!

Postby Spontaneo » 17 May 2025, 02:52

I rarely google. People always say to myself... "just google it". I get upset because I would really like the opinion of an actual person instead!

Anyway, I want to prepare no-bake peanut butter oatmeal cookies. All that you need is peanut butter, oatmeal and honey/maple syrup (I usually use pancake syrup). Guess what? I am out of honey and syrup!

So? Guesss what I did? I googled substitutes!

Yay!

I found that I may use brown sugar or caramel as substitutes! I have both!

Yay!

Have you ever done these things? What did you google? Were you surprised by the outcome?

It kind of depends what you are asking. I get that that would be an annoying response if you want an opinion, but sometimes if you want something really specific, like a recipe for a specific dish, googling it probably makes more sense since it's not likely that random people on a forum will have the recipe you want and you probably could find it by searching yourself.

It also makes more sense to search if you want the answer to a question that has a right or a wrong answer, where opinion doesn't really matter (like say, if you wanted to know why alcohol freezes at a different temperature from water, science doesn't care about people's opinions, there is a single correct answer). Unfortunately Google is becoming less useful now since AI has muddied the search results so you are more likely to find garbage instead of the actual answer. You could try another search engine though, like Duck Duck Go.

I am not talking about asking people on forums.

My grandmother was a professional elocutionist. She specialized in using rarely heard words that some would call "hoity toity" vocabulary. We were brought up with such words in our regular conversations.

For example, "ornithological specimens of identical plumage habitually congregate in gregarious conflagrations." instead of the more common "birds of a feather flock together". There were dozens if not hundreds of such altered statements, even popular songs from her time with all new words.

I recently remembered an odd word she loved to use and tried to find it by online research. I know I have it right since she pounded it into our heads over the years. I could not find it no matter where I looked. Seems the internet and google don't exactly have everything. Oh, that odd word: terminologicalinexactitudinarian. Just a fancy word to call someone a liar.

Other than something like that, I frequently search for the answers online for all kinds of questions and find all kinds of information I never expected to see. It is usually far more detailed than anything you can find in books or conversations with those you encounter. Google is not the only source. It is only one of many search engines. It is sort of like using the word Kleenex to describe any brand of facial tissue.

I often use google for a lot of things, such as recipe and the likes, i feel it is a lot faster to google it than to ask someone. Though there are cases where i actually ask others. Sometimes getting the information from another human is better.

For example, I have a friend that tells myself "It is your recipe, do what you want!" Whenever I prepare my protein shakes, I just toss whatever ingredients that I want into the blender. Google is much different.

It can be Google for me.
Or DuckDuckGo.
Startpage.
Even Brave search.

And well, now in many cases, it is OpenAI(ChatGPT) or Perplexity.AI.
And well, for a person in IT, it is quite common and we do it quite regularly.

Google has made myself very very happy!

There is a water enhancer that I really, really like but is very expensive.

Thanks to google, I now know how to prepare my own homemade version! Just as delicious and I can save alot of money.

Yay!

"Water enhancer" - that sounds really cool !
Is it a way to improve the water quality?

There are soooooo many water enhancers. Some are very nutritious, then some just have flavor. You just have to search.
