Pets In Your Kitchen

Postby Spontaneo » 23 Apr 2025, 03:41

Do you allow your animals to go all over your kitchen?

For example, do you let your pet crawl all over your kitchen table?

What about on your kitchen countertops?

;) ;)

When I had a dog I let her into the kitchen, but just on the floor. I wouldn't allow pets on the kitchen table or food preparation surfaces. I know some people who have cats do that but it's not hygienic.

I don't have pets, but if i do, i will allow them since i know i am bathing and cleaning them properly. Someone else's pet on the other hand? Nope i won't allow it, i don't know the state of your pets health and hygiene.

I’m all for pets hanging out, but definitely not on the kitchen counters or table.

cats dont like the feeling of stick tapes on their feet, so I use to put sticky tapes on my counters, after a traumatic experience with sticky tapes my cats dont climb counters anymore.

The roommate would never allow. What if guests show up and tape all over the place.

You can train them not to get on counters by spraying them with water when they do. That would need your room mate to be on board with the idea though.

To get him to stay off the counters you would need to be really consistent about it.

I know this thread is older, but for anyone who still lands here: our kitchen rules changed completely after I turned my dog into an ESA. I have anxiety and I keep him close almost all the time, including when I cook. I do not let him on the counter or on the table, but he has his own little bed next to the table and it honestly calms me down a lot. To avoid any arguments with the landlord about this, I went through Wellness Wag for an emotional support animal letter so everything is clear and legal in the lease. The compromise was simple: strict hygiene on all surfaces, but the dog is allowed in the kitchen and only gets up on his own chair.

For my part, I don't like my pets roaming around the kitchen, especially on the table or countertop. The kitchen is a place for cooking and storing food, so cleanliness is a must. When an animal walks there, it can leave fur or dirt behind without realizing it. I know some people think it's normal, especially if the pet is clean, but I like to set boundaries. There are places to play and relax, but the kitchen is a no-go zone. It's like saying everyone has their own space. Even if I love my pet very much, there are still boundaries of respect for the environment.
