A friend of mine used to drink smoothies with an egg in for extra protein when she needed to gain weight. I imagine adding it to a smoothie makes consuming a raw egg seem less gross.
I add almond butter to my smoothies for protein. Your peanut butter would work the same way. I've also used silken tofu (the soft kind). I just buy it at the supermarket. Other than that, whole milk has protein. Oats are good too and you can put them through the blender. Sweet potatoes have high protein for a vegetable. Hemp seed or hemp meal is good too but you'd probably have to get it from a health food shop. Avocado is nice for adding good fats and makes it thicker if you want to eat your smoothie in a bowl (I like to), but I don't know what they cost where you are. In some places they're cheap, in others not so much.
Does having smoothies in a bowl "seem" like you are consuming more than when having in a glass? In the past, I have done the portion plate trick and the smaller plate trick. I am wondering if visualizing in a bowl would make a difference?
I don't know, maybe? I do it because I like to add muesli to it, and then it's easier to eat with a spoon. I suppose it does feel more like a complete meal that way, compared with just drinking something.
That's what I was thinking.
