What do you want to achieve with an editor @raaman? You will get more helpful relies if you can give a little more info and context.

A basic editor is a simple text editor (e.g., Notepad) used for writing plain text, while an HTML editor is specialized software (e.g., VS Code, Dreamweaver) designed to create and edit HTML code with features like syntax highlighting, code suggestions, and live previews.

An HTML editor is more beneficial for web development because it improves efficiency, reduces errors, and provides tools to streamline coding. i made few years ago on my website here.

The two purposes cross over today. I know that the majority of the websites I do today are dome with Notepad++ which is a plain text editor.

VS code and Dremweaver are in wysiwyg (what you see is what you get) category. HTML editor is present in Worpress and Blogger. Purpose is for more advanced users. For begginers basic editor is good enough.

HTML Editors are for writing Html i.e web pages, Java Script, JSP, VB Script and similar content.
Basic Editors are for simple text files but can also be used for other purpose if one can manage and knows coding well enough.

If you start with a good template you can share just about anything with very little coding necessary on your part, you just copy and paste to obtain your desired result. The upside is you end up with much cleaner pages that load faster and can be read later to make changes quicker and more reliable. If there is one thing you can depend on without fail, it's that web pages you do today will need to be changed down the road. For an example of what I am talking about look at a page I did that needs changing since it's now out of date with failed programs you can't even join now. To stay out of trouble with Forum Coin I linked the page to the little globe under my name on the left.

If you right click on the page and select Page Source you can see the code I typed in with Notepad+ (a free text editor) to create it from my own template that I use a lot.
