A book that changed your perspective

Postby eldavis » 16 Dec 2024, 16:33

Out of curiosity, can you recommend a book that changed your perspective or how you see certain things. It does not matter what it changed it you, it could be how you view life, or how you view your business, but the most important thing is that it brought about some changes in you, what book would that be?

I wish I could remember the title. It was a children's book about getting familiar with streets and crossings and finding your way back home after a long walk. The story line lead you to paying attention to the landscape, buildings and other things you saw as you went along and then spotting those same items as you turned around to go back home and recognizing the turns along the way.

I was probably not more than 6 to 8 years old at the time. Back then, it was completely acceptable for kids that age to go exploring the world on their own. You just had to be back home by dinner time. It was completely unheard of to consider allowing your kids out on their own as anything beyond letting them grow up. Crazies snatching kids just did not happen back then.

That book got me to exploring farther and farther on each outing and eventually leading me to finding geography and map reading a very enjoyable past time. Every time I visited a new city I bought a map and then studied the streets as I planned my own tours. I often found I could even give directions to locals I encountered who were lost in their own home towns even though I was just a temporary visitor. I even remember a time I hopped up in a big truck to give turn by turn instructions to his destination while I was less than 10 years old and then hung around until he could give me a ride back home. I can now even recognize every state in the US just by the shape of the map even with no labels.

All due to the lessons I learned from a simple children's book.

While growing up, we had well water. Such water tasted nasty and had black particles.

Once I moved out on my own, I had faucet water that was OK.

I just did not like water.

So, after reading Walk Away The Pounds and exercising to her videos, Leslie Sansone said to always drink good, pure, clean water.

Then, after reading Look Great, Feel Great, by Joyce Meyer, she said to take water with you wherever you go.

I began to take their advice and began to buy bottled water!

I do use water enhancer, because I need a little flavor. But I am still drinking water.
