In almost every case, the parents get the direct honor of choosing a name for their own children. During the pregnancy period, they may discuss a wide range of options with each spouse coming up with their own ideas of an appropriate moniker. They may even fight over a final choice until they can finally agree on just the right pick. Once the kid pops out of the oven, they lay the moniker on the birth certificate and in most cases, the kid is stuck with it until they die.
Some chose a favored name from a religious figure. Some chose to use a favored family name. Some spend hours reading through books with lists of name options and their meanings. Some just like the sound of some unique word and make that as the selection.
Some use humor to choose a name that goes well with a unique family last name. There is a guy in the US with a name Weldon Rumproast IV. He was the fourth member in that family with that name. There have been several with a name like Merry Christmas. One named Ima Hog. I went to school with a girl named Iona Hankey.
I recall reading about a culture where it was very common to give the kids a name of something used in their culture, even such as Chair or Table.
Over the last 30 or so years in the US, people have been trying very hard to come up with a unique name for their young, often even inventing new words that just "sound nice".
It seems the black culture in the US love to come up with really hard to pronounce or even spell invented names.
There are some countries where the parent might choose a name that is not accepted by the government and they are ordered to come up with something else.
It is all a unique opportunity to come up with a name for your own young that can make a difference in how they live their life. If it is too bizarre, they may be teased beyond belief. If it just sounds great, they may be able to open doors of success just by their name. If it is just plain horrible, they may opt to legally change their name once they become an adult.
It is a big responsibility and it is all yours. Choose carefully and wisely.
