Back when I was much younger, I often traveled far enough that I had to stop for a rest along the way. I never wanted to spend the money for a motel, so would just pull into a rest stop to take a nap while still sitting in the car. Some naps were only an hour or so but some were all the way to dawn the next day. Whenever I woke up, I would visit the rest room and then hop back in to continue my journey. I have visited most states and into both Mexico and Canada so sleeping in the car was quite often. I actually made the trip from New York all the way to California in 3 days on such a trip, almost 3000 miles one way.
Now that I'm an old retired geezer, it is not unusual for me to get home after a day's work and fall asleep at the wheel in my own driveway right after getting back home. I usually wake up before it gets dark, but I can instantly drop off to sleep for a few hours right there before waking up and going in the house.
