In the Bronze medal playoff match for Men's Hockey in the Paris Olympics, between India and Spain, Spain got off to a great start with a penalty stroke conversion.
Score : Spain - 1 India - 0

However, Indian Captain Harmanpreet Singh, a great Penalty Corner specialist and one of the leading scorers this Olympics scored two goals.
Spain counter attacked but to no avail.

Finally India won 2-1.

An emotional farewell followed for the legendary Indian goalkeeper P.R.Sreejesh who has announced retirement.
His heroics against teams like Argentina, Australia and Great Britain was key in the Indian success and he was very vital in India's Tokyo Olympics Bronze as well!

Historically, India was once at the top in Field Hockey.
It won Gold in
1928, Amsterdam

1932, Los Angeles

1936, Berlin

1948, London

1952, Helsinki

1956, Melbourne

1956, Melbourne

and 1964, Tokyo

It won a silver in 1960 Rome Olympic Games.

Followed by Bronze in 1968(Mexico City) and 1972(Munich)

In the Western powers boycotted Olympics 1980, Moscow, India again won Gold.

Then it was a long long gap. India won a Bronze again in 2021 Tokyo Olympics and then this year Paris.

In a way Hockey is seeing a revival in India and the team is in the top 6 to 7 since many years.
