Also, France is a secular country. It's in their constitution. So they don't have to pander to any religion of they don't wish to.
I don't even care about sport, but sometimes the opening ceremony is fun.

Fact is ... some people just like to like to stir up strife and start controversy. If you let yourself get wrapped up in all that silly stuff, you'll be too exhausted to address real priorities.
Opening ceremonies for the Olympics are just "pomp and circumstance". All I want to know is how many gold medals were won by the USA!! That's the priority.
