Behavior of soccer players on and off the field

Postby mrki444 » 10 Mar 2024, 14:08

Football players on the field play a key role in shaping sports culture and behavior. In addition to technical skills, it is important that they adhere to certain principles. An example of positive behavior is kicking the ball to help an injured teammate or player from the opposing team. An example of behavior that is not considered appropriate is Erling Haaland, the Norwegian striker. He celebrated the title in a way that was not in line with expectations (insinuation of inappropriate behavior with a bottle of champagne), especially for a striker who is an example to many young footballers and the younger audience.

Should additional penalties be introduced for inappropriate behavior or rewards for commendable behavior?

Footballers often carry on very foolishly - falling down drunk, getting mixed up with girls/women they should know better than to, drink driving etc Disappointingly, they don't often get punished for their behaviour, they simply get a slap on the wrist. They are role models, but some of their behaviour comes down to ethics and moral values. In other words, womanising is not good behaviour but is not necessarily a crime. But I do strongly feel where they commit crimes, they should absolutely receive appropriate punishment in line with the crime. Just like former Barcelona football player Daniel Álvarez has been over rape.

Lots of young kids look up to soccer players and I feel it is important that they are good role models. I feel that soccer has a lot of room for improvement in this area and that individual players should face consequences when they behave in a way that brings their club or the sport of soccer into disrepute.

Soccer could learn a little from the sport of rugby in this matter. For example, in rugby only the captain of the rugby team can question the referee on a decision made. The referee must be treated with respect in rugby and unfortunately this does not happen in all sports.

Jordan Henderson could be example for case when he stayed at home and support younger Liverpool team from stand. Most his players went on vacation on warmer area like Hawai. Haaland could learn something from him even he play now in Saudi Arabia.

You have too high expectations from these people. They just happen to be in the spotlight. They are humans as we. Allow them to be human a bit.

But it is not be same human and human who have millions followers and watch you as idol. When you are part of football or any other sport, rules are not same as in fashion or music industry. Event there should be but in sport rules of behavior are much more strict. Also football club image are much more important especially in kids world.

I think if there are punishments attached to certain behaviors, most of them might put in more effort to do better off the pitch.

People still look up to people doing music, fashion and the rest but they are not judged the way soccer players are being judged.

People are just being unnecessarily petty. A player was drunk on vacation? And it is an issue. Probably that guy has not tasted alcohol a whole season which is a whooping 10 months.

If you are a office worker and except your coworkers, nobody else see you, then do whatever you want. If you are image of club, giant posters with your face are everywhere and papparazi follow you 24/7, then be careful what you do in public.
