Gyms Make You Healthy ... as much as Churches Make You Holy

Postby friendociate » 25 Feb 2023, 16:53

Here's the lies they feed you.

Oh, if you're a member of a gym then I'm sure you workout there "regularly" and make adequate use of their equipment ;) ;)

But ... I think the main point here is that 'you are healthy because you choose to get- & stay healthy (whether you join a gym or not).'

Gyms are too expensive for me. They often have those free trials, but I'm suspicious that I will end up getting charged anyway. I exercise in other ways. I don't need much equipment (just some dumb bells) and I'm not keen on being around a lot of other smelly sweaty people.

They say the best exercise is running (or walking) around outside (or on an indoor course or around the gym's basketball court).

In 2020 I lost 65 pounds . How did I do it? Well let me tell you what I did. I did not join a gym, I did not exercise at all. So how is it possible? It is. I did 3 things. I stopped drinking soda which is one of the things that contribute. I stopped eating junk food such as chips, candy . And finally. I looked at calorie counts on what I ate. I had about 250 calories for breakfast, 300 calories for lunch , and a regular dinner which was estimated to be about 600-800 calories. That is it. Sounds impossible but it worked. Now last year I slipped up a little and put on 20 pounds. But now I am back on track

Who says that?

The best kind of exercise for you depends on what you want to get out of it (whether you want to lose weight, or increase your flexibility, or just have fun) and on your age and a load of other factors. I literally can't run right now, due to an injury that may turn into a chronic issue if I'm not careful. Even walking much causes me pain. Instead I do weights and workouts I can do sitting or on a mat.

I don't know exactly where I heard it, but a) the middle-school I attended was named (by students including myself  ) was named after the inventor of aerobic-exercise, and b) I looked it up, & WebMD named it first (among the seven most-effective exercises):
  1. Walking
  2. Interval Training
  3. Squats
  4. Lunges
  5. Push-ups
  6. Abdominal Crunches
  7. Bent-Over Row

That's fine, but it will depend on the individual. The same type of exercise doesn't work for everyone at all points in their lives.

Just like 'not all automobiles get good gas-mileage with drag-racer's gasolene 8-)
