Do you workout at home or in a commercial gym?

Postby MattTolentino02 » 22 Jul 2022, 05:29

Two years ago, before the Covid-19 pandemic, I have a membership at a local boxing gym. However, that gym was forced to close temporarily due to government policies in controlling the Covid-19 virus. Fast forward to today and I haven't renewed my membership yet. So when I workout (very occasionally), I do it at home. How about you?

I have always been a workout-at-home kind of person. I am not very fond of the gym at all and often can't afford to pay for a gym membership. I would much rather just walk to work instead of getting a ride to work out or ride my bike than go work out in a gym. I do yoga and pilates and home as well. My all-time favorite exercise is swimming. I have found that the gym feels far too judgemental for me. I will stick to working out at home or taking a martial arts class or swimming over the gym.

At home. Local gym is overcrowded and all others offer workout which I can do it at home. It is good when somebody push you or tell when you do something wrong but there is many youtube tutorials with simple excercise and you don't need trainer for those.

As an introvert, I really love the privacy that I get when I exercise at home. And you can replay a YouTube tutorial as many times as you want, which is not possible with a human fitness coach!

I would never workout in the gym, waste of money and those workout tools, you can find them in the park too. My job is a manual job, i have walk every day, carry boxes and use heavy machinery. Consider as a workout

What made you stop going to a commercial gym? Are you like me whose primary reason is the recent pandemic?

With a little creativity, I strongly believe that we can achieve in our own homes the same results that we can obtain from going regularly to a commercial gym.

Once your financial situation improves, will you go back to a commercial gym/fitness studio?

I have never considered joining a gym for exercise. Since I work outside with tools and equipment to maintain multiple yards, I get all the exercise I need. I'd be too tired after a day's work to even go there if I did join. I'm also too tired to do any additional exercise at home after work.

I know several local people who have joined local gyms and several have told me of their experiences. The vast majority only reported that they cancelled their memberships as soon as possible to save the fees. They mostly never went to the gym even with a paid membership. Seems like a waste of money to me. Even so, I have noticed that the parking lots at local gyms do have a lot of cars there most of the time so I suppose some do go.

It is one of those things that sounds like maybe a good idea, but you really have to be committed to it to bother.

I usually do my workouts at home, though I am not fully committed to it, there are times I am not able to carry it out.

What type of workouts do you do at home? And do you do it alone, with a partner, or with a group?

I usually workout at home alone. I have a routine I stick to but usually I use an App. I will download it later since it helps to guide me, and for me to feel not so alone while working out.

I actually hate leaving the house. Working out at home has helped me save the extra money for enrolling in a gym. As long as you workout that's a huge step. Sometimes I get lazy though. Consistency is key.

The only exercise I can perform outside is brisk walking. It usually involves a long walk. Although I don't enjoy pumping irons, I respect others who do.

I practice home physical therapy every night. The exercises are like aerobics. I do reps after reps after reps.
