The XXXII Tokyo Olympics Talk

Postby ptrikha21 » 10 Jul 2021, 12:09

This discussion can act as a kind of placeholder discussion or update point on the upcoming Olympics - XXXII Tokyo 2020, to be held in 2021.

1)As of now, it looks as if very few or almost nil spectators would be allowed in the stadiums.
2)India has medal hopes in Hockey, Badminton, Weightlifting, Wrestling, Boxing, Shooting and Archery. Would India win in these or others as well?
3)US, China, Russia, UK dominate the medals tally. Would we see some other country coming close? May be Japan would get a good tally.

So may be we can keep on sharing Olympics news and medals tally.

It's hard to tell who would win because things tend to take a different turn after a few days but i know when it comes to swimming and badminton Japan will be way ahead because thats what they are good in. We will definitely be reading reviews here every other day am sure.

Oh so Japan is good in Badminton as well. I thought that Malaysia, South Korea and Sweden are good at Badminton.

The scene for India looks promising. We can just keep our fingers crossed and hope that we see a leap in our medal tally this time.

The 2020 olympics in 2021 after second wave, but there would be crowd or not?
India may get medal in Wrestling, Boxing, and women Badminton; don't know Hockey status.

The chances in Hockey are good but well, they have to play with a lot of intent and play to their best.

I heard one of the athletes got tested positive for COVID already in Tokyo. They have to sit out of the games this year. It must be such a disappointment to train for so long, travel to a foreign country, only to not be able to participate :(

Yes such a thing would be quite disappointing.

India opens its medal tally with a silver. Let's hope we get more and more coming our way. It was good news on Induan Hockey front but bad from the women tennis front. It's all about sports and anything can happen. Let's wait and watch.

Yes, today was a mixed baggage but with disappointments across Archery, Shooting and in Men's hockey making for a bad day.
Still, we have good news from Badminton, Boxing and Table Tennis.

I was watching the news just this morning, and there were segments on the Olympics. I heard some athletes were being investigated for breaking COVID rules, even as new cases emerge everyday! I don't know why anyone would want to jeopardise their Olympics chances in that fashion!

India is out of race in many games. Both Hockey teams are playing well. I think China will be No one

May be some athletes forgot about a few restrictions or just went to talk to someone out of habit. Tough to explain otherwise.

I was saddened to see both Hockey teams lose in the semis. Still they have performed quite well.
Performances to remember.

Today the wrestler Ravi Kumar Dahiya made it to the finals. I think it is 57 Kgs category.
Also Lovelina Borgohain has got the Bronze.
Javelin thrower Neeraj Chopra has got into the finals with a good throw.

Obviously, because I'm America I root for the USA. But this year's Olympics was different. I was happy no matter who won. The only athletes I feel bad for are the ones who tested positive for COVID-19 and were not allowed to compete. No matter what country they were from, I hope they don't lose heart, It will be another 4 years but I hope they stay fit so they can compete next time!

I saw some events and US has won medals in Athletics and Swimming.
Today Neeraj Chopra created history with Olympic Gold Medal in Javelin throw:
1st ever Athletic medal for India &
2nd ever individual Olympic gold medal
for India.

Plus we won one more medal in Wrestling - Bronze.
