Have you tried to organize any tournament

Postby mrki444 » 24 Aug 2020, 18:32

For the weekend I participated in a local tennis tournament with about 50 players in 4 categories. It seemed simple, but listening to the organizers I realized that organizing such a tournament is not easy at all. Find sponsors, advertise the tournament, organize the game schedule, food and drinks delivery, prizes.
All this needs to be incorporated but the biggest problem was the organization of the game schedule as the players came from a lot of places, some even 100km away. Tennis does not have a specific playing time but depends only on the players. If one match is played longer than anticipated, all matches on that field are moved or transferred to another field. The semifinals were supposed to start at the same time so that the finalists would have roughly equal rest until the finals.

Have you tried to organize a tournament? What was it about and was it easy for you?

Well done on organizing a tennis tournament tmrki444. I've never organized a tournament but some time ago I have organized other types of events, such as a quizzes. The one thing I learned is that organizing an event is much much more difficult than you think. From the outside it doesn't seem very difficult, but when you are actually doing it, lots of complications arise and there is just so much to be coordinated. It's not something I particularly enjoyed to be honest. Now anytime I attend an event I make an effort to show my appreciation to the organizers and not to be critical of any mishaps or small mistakes that are made, because I know from experience, that is is much more difficult than it looks.

No i have not done and by the way i'm a little procrastinating organizer so i don't prefer myself in any organizing group.

We also review critics about matches, when they should start or late, but you never know when it will finish. We were lucky and we didn't have any rain. Also few players decide not play in last moment, but we had few players are replacement ready.
