Boy, tall order for a reply on a site like this. You sure you don't want to take this to a shrink for a private counseling?
In my humble opinion, everyone is looking for some reason for being alive on this rock. If you can't find a decent reason to live, you get depressed. You know, the old "why am I here" kind of question.
It is clear that we are not here to accumulate great wealth. It does not matter how much you accumulate, you can't take a thing with you when you make your exit. The best you can do is rent it, but then you leave a huge millstone around the neck of whoever is saddled with settling your estate when you take off. All you really collected was the liability of being the steward of all your possessions but then shoved it off on someone else at the end.
We are not here to become famous. It does not matter who you are or what you have done. Even those who became well known over the entire globe are little more than a few paragraphs in some history book or document. When you are gone, you are soon forgotten. When those who personally knew you take their own exits, so does all the live memories of you. Think of someone you knew who was famous when you were young and ask some kid today about them. In most cases, you will get a blank stare and a "who?"
So ... what are we here for? The best you can do is to be of service to those around you. Be kind, be a helping hand, be there for a friend in need. Be a good friend to those around you. Don't spout off and bore people with your wisdom, let them come to you and ask your opinion. You can't affect everyone on the planet, but you can affect those you come in contact with. That is the best anyone can do.
Get out of the house and find a place to be of service to others, in whatever way you have to offer. That first step will take you away to a higher plain and misery and depression will soon be a distant memory.
