Hi Loudawg,

The longest distance of walk was 8 years back, Giripradakshina at Arunachalam in Tamilnadu India. The distance is 16 km, we have walked around the mountain that is my longest distance I have walked.

I couldn't say the distance. But once I was meeting someone from another town and we walked around my hometown for hours. just stopped briefly a couple times. I think we walked over 2 hours. That is the longest I have ever walked in a day of mostly straight walking.

When I was 12, we had a school camp which had a 8 hr day climb of Tongariro which apparently is ~19KM.

I walked a total of about 9 hours, I'd been in a fight so I was limping And it's a fairly long distance from Wells Somerset to Trowbridge, Wiltshire. I then took a train to London to my girlfriend's house.

Just realised I made a mistake, it was 23 miles not 32.

I walked 42 km because I missed the last bus at 5.30 pm at that hilly picnic spot. There was no place to stay there so i decided to walk on that hilly road all the way back to town I was staying. I was booked to leave that town the next morning. That was a scary experience walking on a road where there was no one else.

I have once walked 41 Km with my mother, the distance between my house and a sanctuary, it was a kind of peregrination. We did this walk as way to show how thankful we were because my daughter went three times to surgery (she was a hip baby) and one of the surgery was so complicated that took three hours, I feared for her and I was quite scared.

The longest walk I remember was 8 miles with a 60 pound pack on my back, a steel helmet on my head carrying a 10 pound M1 Garand rifle. If you haven't figured it out, I was in the US Army.

There are some great stories in this topic, well done to everyone who has completed such interesting walks, especially those who did it to help others.

I go for short walks three to four times per week. Some years back I decided I wanted to run a marathon. I tried training a number of times but was constantly experiencing injuries. My body doesn't seem to be able to cope with the impact of long distance (or probably even short distance) running. So I decided to walk one instead. It took lots of dedication and training, and I walked the Longford Marathon in 2009. It was an excellent experience and even though I believe that almost anyone who takes the time to train could also do it, I felt a great sense of achievement after it.

The longest distance that I have walked would have to be 5 miles. It was cold and dark. I was walking on uneven ground so by the time I made it to my destination my legs and hips were about to fall off.

I do not remember the longest distance that I have walked, but I did a breast cancer walk and I think it was about 5 miles. I have also done a lot of hiking in a national park in California. I do like to go on walks with my children but we do not usually go too far from home.

It wasn't walking, but when my son was in the Boy Scouts we paddled a canoe for 65 miles down the Willamette River in Oregon, which took us a week.
