It's been a good day for me here so far. Supposed to be getting a new couch delivered to replace the one that's breaking down and needs to be put out of its misery.

Started watching a series called "Lie to Me". The guy is like a human lie detector. He said if a person was telling the truth their forehead would wrinkle. But this lady's forehead never wrinkled. He finally figured out that she was telling the truth. It's just that she had Botox injections and her forehead wouldn't wrinkle.

I'm just back from a holiday. Lots of mail to sort and washing to do now, but I feel refreshed and relaxed.

Oh no! I hope it's a relatively simple fix.

Our country celebrated its Independence Day (on July 4th). I am happy to report that there were no mass shootings at the various gatherings throughout the country. (Sad, huh?)

Yeah, depressing that that is newsworthy, but yay!

I did a lot of walking today. Not looking forward to being back at work tomorrow. First, tea, and in a while, dinner.

Definitely not! We work 5 days in row cleaning everything and we didn't do half work. Main thing is finish roof and it will last 2-3 days. Then it goes full renovation from inside.

I had two lessons scheduled; taught one and the other one postponed. Then I spotted a great buy-one-get-one-free air ticket offer! So this whole afternoon, I was looking at various Gaborone-Manchester (UK) return ticket options and hotels  But in the end, I decided it may not be the best time to go

Attended worship services online. It's Sunday and I don't have a car to get to the church building. Ever since COVID, they started streaming the services. I'm glad for that. Happy Sunday! <3

Sorry to hear that happened to you and your brother. It seems like an unusual time of year to have an ice storm, what happened?

I was up all night accomplishing 2 cookbook reviews for weekendnotes/toopa!

The roommate was home in her bedroom, so luckily the cat stayed with her! The cat usually demands my desk chair!

I am kind-of tired.

An ice storm?? Oh my! And here I was worried about what Hurricane Beryl might do to us. It hit Texas but nowhere near where I live. Other cities like Houston and Galveston were affected. The weather in Austin was GORGEOUS!!

I am always amazed by the weather.
How one area can be almost destroyed while another area is like paradise?

On the plus side, y'all still have a house and it just needs repairs. You are fortunate.

I worked out this morning and did a little bit of online shopping. I need to get a bunch of writing work done today. Just not feeling very motivated right now. Maybe some tea will help.

This morning I went to the library and picked up some books. Since I got back I cleaned the kitchen a bit, now it's time for lunch.

I'm absolutely knackered. I taught three lessons this morning and took delivery of some furniture we bought during the week. Only, once it all got here, we realised our match box flat was too small. So we asked my brother to keep some of our older furniture for us until we can move to a bigger place because he has a huge house. The whole afternoon, we scrubbed and cleaned, moved things around, threw some out etc

And the result? Our house looks worse now with the new furniture. We've had to squeeze it in, and now the flat looks cold, soulless and awful. We both HATE it :(

You just provoked childhood memories.

LOL. When I was growing up I don't think my parents ever bought new furniture. I remember people bringing furniture to our house they no longer wanted. I noticed that my mother would move furniture around every 6 months or so and she would also change the curtains. One time I asked her why she did that, and of course, she said: "Cause I can't afford new furniture but I want my house to look different." Yep. That's my mom. <3

My mother's sister, my aunt, on the other hand, bought new furniture for her new home AND NEVER BOUGHT FURNITURE AGAIN!! LOL. My aunt could keep things forever and whatever she bought always looked BRAND NEW!! The clothes in her closet looked like she never wore them and I know she did! She bought a sofa and had a plastic covering tailor-made for it. That sofa lasted for decades! :D
